5.0 out of 5 stars Rock out with FF, February 18, 2002
This is a very nice package to have if you are a Fear Factory fan. _Digital Connectivity_ is a DVD with 84 minutes of FF footage. Culled from various sources, it is a simulataneous celebration and documentation of the band's first decade of existence.

The DVD can be played as one long movie or as 4 individual chapters, one for each of the band's first four studio albums. Besides including backstage clips and short interviews with the band members, the disc also includes all of the band's music videos: "Replica" (which was virtually ignored by MTV), "Resurrection" (which follows the _Obsolete_ story concept written by vocalist Burton Bell), "Cars" (which includes an appearance by Gary Numan), and "Linchpin" (from the recent _Digimortal_ album).

The bulk of the DVD is composed of live performances-- approximately 3 songs per album. Taken from a variety of venues the world over and from a varying timeframe, the footage ranges from bad to good, but mostly good. The liner notes indicate that there are no overdubs and no audio doctoring of the sound so as to keep the performances "as authentic as possible." Mostly, this works well, and gives a very genuine "visual" band history (for example, in one early scene we see one of Bell's forearm tattoos outlined, by the midpoint of the DVD it is not only filled in, but there is a quick shot of him getting inked on his chest.)

The DVD has many highlights-- snippets of guitarist Dino jamming with Pantera; a crowd singing "happy birthday" to bassist Christian; even a cameo by Ron Jeremy (does this explain the naked chicks backstage?) The high point for me was the performance of "Self Bias Resistor" taken from MTV's now-defunct Headbanger's Ball. Ah, memories.

In addition to all of this, the DVD includes Bell's written history of the band, 8 unreleased audio tracks of b-sides and rarities, photo galleries, and backgrounds for your computer. The only complaint I have is that Rhys Fulber, the band's producer and unofficial 6th member, gets no airtime on the DVD and is seen in only a few shots in the studio (including one in which the band has jokingly placed a sign on him while sleeping.) However, this aside-- as someone who has met the band once and seen them in concert several times, this is a genuine and well-done piece of FF nostalgia.

5.0 out of 5 stars "Welcome to the world of FEAR FACTORY", August 14, 2002
By Joanne T. Horton (Chester, NH United States) - See all my reviews
Over ten years ago Fear Factory dropped a bomb on the metal world, and it's never been the same since. This is a MUST HAVE for any FF fan, hardcore or not. Over 80 min. of the band, from a bunch of live performances, to videos, to the guys talking about their history, and just jokin' around. The live stuff isn't the best ever, but I don't know why everyone always complains about the audio on bands live performances? The live songs on this are fine, I didn't even really notice if some of them were a little scratchy. When you're a fan, you put up with the little imperfections. This is an excellent DVD, no matter what anyone may say. WELL worth the money, you won't be disappointed. Truly, one of the greatest metal bands of all time, from their beginning to their untimely demise, these guys where in a class of their own! This is the real breed baby, you just don't hear stuff like this anymore:( There will never be another...FF forever!

3.0 out of 5 stars Only for the most die-hard FF fans..., January 18, 2002
By A Customer
I consider myself a huge fan of Fear Factory's music-they're one of my top 5 favorites, and that's from a collection of over 700 CD's. Demanufacture, Obsolete and Digimortal are without a doubt the best industrial metal out there.

That said, this DVD is interesting, but not something I'd want for repeat viewing. My main interest was the live clips, as I wanted to see what they were like live. I kind of wish I hadn't. The sound quality on the live clips is bootleg at best, probably because most of it came from fan shot video. While Ray and Dino are dead on with the guitar and drums live, the bass and vocals just weren't on in most of clips. It's a shame, because this band does some fantastic studio work, with the help of Rhys Fulber of course.

I find music videos in general uninteresting, and the interview parts are too few and far between to be worth the price.

This would be a great DVD for someone who has FF tattooed somewhere on their body, or someone who is obsessed with the band's members, but for those who like them mainly for their recordings, this may let you down a bit. At least it's better than the Type O After Dark DVD-that was a waste...
