Editorial Reviews

New York Times
"...mostly young, gorgeous actresses...talking dirty in breathy phone-sex voices. ... Excellent ... Sexual ... A titillation.

Product Description
The Erotica Project's Sex at 19 is a unique synthesis of original music and poetic, confessional literature. This union unveils intimate details that take you into the heart of erotic, sexual experiences. Sex at 19, the first CD, is theme-based and explores two perspectives on euphoric teenage sex; one from a wildly exuberant adolescent girl ready to try anything, balanced by the reflections of an older woman reveling in memories that shaped her own sexuality.

Two dynamic and distinct narratives paint a portrait of strong independent women declaring their love of sex, drugs and rock and roll.

From Lola, the irrepressible party girl, to Baptism, a woman's lyrical reflection of sensual epiphany, these stories and confessions of female erotica take the audience on a thrilling journey.

1.0 out of 5 stars Trite, impossible to listen to parts of it, February 2, 2002
By A Customer
A major disappointment - I was a fan of the original book, but this is awful. The woman who does the voice of "Lola" on 3 different tracks is so harsh that it's hard to listen to her. _What_ were they thinking using this voice? The rest of the writing is trite and forced, with but one honest piece about a lesbian encounter near the end. Skip it, it appears to be just an attempt to tag onto the original success.

5.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly sexy, April 14, 2004
By J. Rubin (NY, NY USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I guess I thought: "What could it be" if it's just words. But the words were seductive and literate and... I guess just titillating. And the music is beautiful and varied: rock, jazz, modern, very moving... and I just felt that it moved me and excited me and made me feel like I was there. I had never felt until I heard this that I could imagine something that would be so sexy and just be sound. I really like it, I really recommend it. It's not for the squeamish, that's for sure, but if you like to be turned on, and think it should happen in a way that makes you feel like you're part of a story, then you'll love this. If you don't like dirty words, don't buy it.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seduction and titillation of your mind, March 20, 2002
By Max (Gibraltar) - See all my reviews
I had a chance to see the performance of The Erotica Project: Sex at 19 at Joe's Pub in New York City and I am glad to find the original cast on this album. The material is very strong and literate but still leaves space for imagination and manages to create a stage atmosphere on CD. This is possible because of strong writing in combination with subliminal music. Every piece has its own identity. LOLA shows no regard for conservative ears on this CD. My favorite story is Black Clogs. I could not stop laughing. This material is a must for any collection because there is simply nothing like it! Believe me.
