2.0 out of 5 stars Outdated and Unimpressive, September 14, 2007
By CloudMan (Sydney, NSW Australia) - See all my reviews
I'm still backdating my electronica listening for Renaissance albums mixed by Dave Seaman...all because of his very impressive Desire album. Well I didn't like Awakening and America is even worse. Outdated trance that flows poorly with too many tracks that have me reaching for the skip button. Missed its release? Don't worry, not much worth listening to on this album. Still can't figure out the America theme.

2/5 stars

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mix!!, December 29, 2003
By Evan (Australia) - See all my reviews
I'm starting to think....the older the better. I bought this CD when it came out and never get tired of listening to it. I pull it out every now and again and always enjoy Dave's Mix. The mix opens with a mellow couple of tracks and then starts building.....building.....until the mind blower by Laguna Seca -"The Flow" and "Twin Town" by Ian Wilkie Vs Timo Maas. The mix continues pumping and eventually starts coming down with Orkidea "Unity" and to finish it off, a great vocal track by Anomaly.
This is for all who love Trance and even prog. house/tech house fans will enjoy this.
Turn the lights low, make some space in the lounge, crank up the stereo and party on!!!!

5.0 out of 5 stars Essential energetic trance, March 3, 2002
By Richard Diaz (Centerville, OH United States) - See all my reviews
(TOP 1000 REVIEWER)
This was released near the edge of 2000, and thankfully sees a new re-pressing for those who missed it the first time. Oh, what a crowd pleasin' set it is, courtesy of Dave Seaman. Forgoing the atmospheric builds marking his Global Underground excursions, Seaman fires out an exciting, energetic string of tracks without resorting to the huge trance-choons of 1999.

BT and Hybrid are of course some of the biggest names in trance, and their collaboration on "Godspeed" is appropriately spot-on, merging polished production with deep-bass undertones. Of the endless mixes "Under the Water" has flooded dance with, the Starecase cut that follows does a fab job of injecting life to the dreary vocals.

Seaman's ability to string several driven numbers without devolving into high-speed nonsense ultimately makes this a winner; juggling just enough squelch or breakbeat (Highland's "Forsaken") or melody to keep you tuned in. In fact, it almost ends too soon, with the last three tracks easing the throttle or dipping somber (Orkidea's "Unity") before ending on that DJ-popular closer "Anomaly."

Regardless, practically essential for trance fans.
