3.0 out of 5 stars Does Not Include Recovery Software, January 28, 2002
By P S. Kania (Alaska) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
So far, as for functionality and stability, I really like this computer. What I don't like is that HP does not include recovery disks with this model. Instead, the HD is partitioned and the recovery software is placed on one of the partitions. This is fine if there are no major problems, but if somehow your HD is wiped, then according to HP tech support, you must send them you tower to have the HD re-partitioned and the software placed on it again. How inconvenient is that?!!!

Though the technician I spoke with didn't tell me, I have read that if you are replacing your HD, they will provide you with disks for a charge. In all other situations, the tower is to be sent to them to fix. I am going to try to get the disks for this computer, but if I can't, I intend to exercise the 30-day return policy of the merchant I purchased this computer from and look elsewhere.

Buyers beware, though I don't know it as fact, I understand other manufacturers are going to do this as well, check before you buy, if having the ability to configure your computer in the fashion you prefer is important to you, ask about the recovery disks before you buy. Make them show them to you, as some salesmen don't always know as much as they should about the products they are selling.

Of the four computers I've owned so far, this computer is by far the greatest and most satisfying. I have not had a single problem with it other than some minor bugs that are to be expected.
