Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
This CD could've been titled Roswell: The Love Songs, what with almost every track's cargo of starry eyes, head-over-heels flips, and vows of eternal understanding. Its appeal to sensitive types is all but guaranteed by the presence of Dido's theme song "Here with Me" (in two versions, one a "Chillin' with the Family" mix that Andrew Lloyd Webber fans will appreciate) and quiet alt-rock faves Coldplay and Travis. Two recent albums underheard in the U.S. are represented, Long Distance from New York popsters Ivy (a remixed "Edge of the Ocean") and Free All Angels from Irish stars Ash ("Shining Light"); those cuts, happily, are the most successful at communicating the thrill of a new romance. Doves check in with an unnecessary Beatles cover, while Stereophonics almost get away with the cheery "Have a Nice Day." A mixed bag, but one that Roswell fans will no doubt embrace. --Rickey Wright

5.0 out of 5 stars An Amazing Soundtrack!!, January 13, 2004
By A Customer
I bought this soundtrack because I'm in LOVE with the show and because i already liked a few songs on the album. I ended up loving every song on this CD. I love the version of "Brothers and Sisters" by Coldplay on this CD, plus, i couldn't find that version anywhere else. "Save Yourself (Sense Field)," "Fear (Sarah McLachlan)," "I Shall Believe (Sheryl Crow)," "Here With Me (Dido)," "Shining Light (Ash)," etc. are all great songs.

Here's some info on what some of the songs are to the show:

1. "I Shall Believe" is Max and Liz's song. It was the song they danced to at what would've been there wedding if Liz didn't change the future...(Stupid Tess)

2. "Shining Light" was Roswell's last song. It came in the very last episode called "Graduation" when the gang was driving away.

3. "Fear" was the song that appeared in the show's "Pilot" when Max healed Liz after she was shot. It was when they first made contact.

4. "Here With Me" was the song that played during the show's opening credits.

5. "Brothers and Sisters" was the song that played during a phone conversation between Jesse and Isabel when they were talking about her parents coming close to discovering her true identity. It also played while Isabelle and Max's parents watched the videotape of her using her powers. The song came at the end of the episode

So, anyways, I HIGHLY recommend buying this soundtrack because it's one of the best out there! Plus, don't forget that it's an enhanced CD, so it comes with a bunch of cool features that people (especially Roswell fans) would appreciate.

4.0 out of 5 stars Hey, It's Roswell!, August 30, 2005
The music included on this soundtrack has its merits and its downfalls. If you're into mellow, poppy melodies with semi-meaningful lyrics and decent singers, this CD is for you. One of its merits is the rare "Brother and Sisters" song by Coldplay and other songs from lesser known bands. The best songs, Dido's "Here With Me," Coldplay's "Brother and Sisters," Sarah McLachlan's "Fear," and Sheryl Crow's "I Shall Believe," are for the most part played in pivotal scenes. The others are in less important or less appropriately matched scenes and lack emotionally.

Sadly, most of the music on the album is from season three of Roswell and is not the most appropriate for a soundtrack. Many fans would have preferred more songs from emotionally impactful songs played during the first two seasons, arguably the best of the series. Also, most of the songs that were included on this CD were changed for the DVD releases.

The extra features are pretty useless for those who are not fans of the television show. The Sense Field biography is superfluous and somewhat forward considering the minimal importance of the band to the show. The photographs in the booklet are nice but there are too many from season three and not enough from season one. The Jason Katims interview rehashes information well known to hard core fans (and are there any other kind when it comes to Roswell?), but it is nice to have readily available and in good quality. Perhaps the most fun addition to the enhanced CD is the map of Roswell that shows where first kisses, deaths, and alien related events occurred.

Overall, this CD could have been better, but it is representative of Roswell, just more favorably to season three.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent soundtrack for a show I don't watch., March 30, 2002
I'm not a fan of the show "Roswell" but I loved the choice of tracks culled for the soundtrack. The selection lends a eerie atmosphere which is ideal for the television show. I already own a few of the songs on this album which includes both versions of Dido's "Here With Me" and Sarah McLachlan's "Fear". As overplayed as "Here With Me" is, I still enjoy listening to the song, especially the Chillin' With the Family Mix. The remix is a more trip hop version of the song. "Fear" is one of my personal favorite Sarah McLachlan songs. The Hybrid's Super Collider Mix is superb, and th song itself sounds better remixed. I loved Doves' cover of "Blackbird". I thought their version sounded better than Sarah McLachlan's version on the "I Am Sam" soundtrack. The Sheryl Crow track "I Shall Believe" simply impressed me. She sounded just great on this haunting track. I am not very familiar with Stereophonics' music but I liked what I heard from them with "Have a Nice Day". And a nice way to close out the album is with the remix of Dido's "Here With Me". The remix makes a tired song sound new again. I can't tire of this version of "Here With Me". Overall a top notched soundtrack. Normally I don't dig tv soundtracks but "Roswell" proved to be better than I imagined or expected.
