Product Description

Amazon.com Review
Using four attractants to lure mosquitoes, flies, and other biting insects, this electronic device effectively controls such insects in all directions over an acre of ground. Key to the device's performance is the patented heartbeat sound it radiates at a low frequency that's virtually inaudible to humans but attracts insects over a wide area. When they get closer, insects are drawn in by the smell of a strip emitting the natural fragrance of octenol, which mimics breath, ultraviolet reflection that mimics movement; and the unit's 110-degree-F heat--like that of a warm-blooded victim. Lured into the device, insects are captured by a WebTrap adhesive paper coated with a special glue that's effective in all weather, including rain. Each WebTrap is good for about seven days, and an octenol strip lasts four weeks. (Four WebTraps and one strip included, with replacement kits available separately.)

Lightweight, portable (with a built-in handle), weatherproof, and harmless to pets and children, the device operates at a low voltage and can be left on continuously during hot/dry seasons. A control attached to the 50-foot power cord turns the device on and off, and LED lights indicate when the unit is operating. For storage, the cord wraps underneath the unit's base. The device measures 19 inches high and 15 inches in diameter. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars It worked in a rainforest, June 14, 2004
By John T. Harrison III (Honolulu, HI USA) - See all my reviews
I was skeptical. Living in HawaiÔi, with an annual rainfall in my neighborhood of over 125", we lived with a lot of mosquitos. Doing laundry meant running a gauntlet of hungry biters.

A neighbor had tried a competing, propane-powered mosquito trap, that was patently ineffective. The manufacturer of this competing unit explained to my neighbor that the species of mosquito most problematic here, the Asian Tiger mosquito (Aedes albopictus), was not the target species for their unit.

We deployed the SonicWeb device in mid-January, and by the middle of February, both my wife and I noticed a distinct reduction in the number of mosquitos. We also noticed that one of our pets, who has an allergy to mosquitos and who had suffered from a chronic raw irritation on his nose, experienced a marked healing. By the end of the month of February, the mosquito population by our laundry was virtually nonexistent.

Interestingly, I've noted very few adult female Aedes albopictus on the sticky paper. Most of the mosquitos I see there are small, leading me to suspect that the trap is attracting juveniles and males, effectively interrupting the mating and reproductive cycle.

It's now June. Yesterday, conversing with another neighbor, one living right next door, I asked if he'd noticed a decrease in mosquitos, and he agreed, saying that his visiting son and daughter-in-law, who previously had been particularly affected by mosquito bites in prior years, had remarked on the fact that none were present this year.

I'm not generally given to unsolicited product recommendations, but the SonicWeb unit has been a product that worked as advertised.

4.0 out of 5 stars generally a great product, July 16, 2004
By J. L. Dodge (EATON RAPIDS, MI United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I was skeptical about this product but we purchased a home in an area that was obviously going to have a major mosquito population. I purchased two machines and have to change the "fly paper" regularly or the flying criters are in line waiting to die. I am not sure about the acre coverage but for the price they are GREAT!!

1.0 out of 5 stars Broken after 1 1/2 yrs......, June 9, 2005
The first year the SonicWeb worked great - it is a much needed purchase, as we have a child allergic to mosquitos! However, we are at the start of the summer in year 2, and the machine is not working at all. I called the company, and I am out of warranty (1 yr warranty), and they could not provide me any other number or helpful information to assist with repairing this broken machine. Definitley would NOT recommend to anyone.
