Can make you fall asleep., December 28, 2002
I just got this for my boyfriend for Christmas. He loves it. I think it has just about anything you might need, all in one item. If only it had a built-in refridgerator, it would be perfect. The messager is not wimpy (I was afraid it might be). The light is brite for the reader, but not disturbing for anyone else that might be in bed at the same time. The pockets hold a book or two, along with the remote control for the heater and messager. If you know someone who reads in bed alot, this is a great item.

I got this chair for a whole different reason, April 23, 2005
Okay, I've only had this chair for a week and used it about 4 times, but i'll tell you what i think so far and kinda address some points i've read in other reviews. READ THE LAST POINT IF YOU'RE A MOM or MOM TO BE or...know one :)
1) the fabric is a silky, stretchy, shiny material. Pretty comfortable to me. it does look like it would be easy to clean. as others have said, it would be super if it came in a plush velvet or chenille, but it doesn't and this is actually really comfortable. mine came in black just as the picture on Amazon.
2) the light on my chair is *NOT* flimsy in any way. its strudy as can be and more than adequate to read by. my 3 small children have been messing with it and haven't been able to cause the slightest damage to it yet and that's sayin' something.
3)i LOVE the heat feature and think it works VERY well. it gets my back hot enough to make a big difference when i'm achey or sore without it getting too hot where you'd have to turn it down.
4) the massage doesn't feel a spa treatment at the Four Seasons hotel...but it gets the job done. its more of a relaxing vibration and in conjunction with the heat is a very pleasent and helpful experience. i always hate to get up from it and look forward to sitting back down in it.
5)i have not tried to move it to the center of a room or anything to see how well it stands up on its own, i have mine on my bed where my bed pillows usually are and so the back is pressed up against my headboard. this works great and is how i intended to use it to begin with.
6)the big arms on the side *rock*. they could be extended slightly to be a little more useful (longer i mean) but its definately better than not having them at all and trying to hold your book in your lap with no support under your elbows.
7) honestly, i got this chair for a whole different reason that they probably never thought of....breastfeeding. it keeps my sitting upright, just the perfect amount. the arms on the side help keep my arms elevated perfectly to support my newborn in the perfect position to breastfeed...AND the BEST part of all...the heat and vibrations!! i'm still achey from the pregnancy and being up all night with feedings and the heat is *heaven* on my back...without having to mess with a heating pad slipping down the pillow and getting bunched up and having to fix it all the time. the vibrations lull both me and my newborn to sleep constantly. i highly recommend this for this purpose! it sure beats a Boppy or a nursing pillow! with extra perks for mom...when you need it most :)
hope this helps someone...

Great concept but did not live up to its potential, October 11, 2003
By A Customer
Unfortunately, this great concept was fatally marred by several gaping mistakes in craftsmanship and design. 1. The light was flimsy and cast a very dim yellow light. 2. The heater was so cushioned by the padding of the chair that I barely felt any heat. 3. The power supply did not give enough power to operate all 3 functions of the chair at once. (For example, if I turned on the heat or even the light, the massage feature will significantly weaken in its massage.) 4. The material on the chair itself slides against the skin and is not soft enough. It would have been nice if it had a more velour/chenille feeling material. 5. The balance of the chair. If I lend back on the chair, the arm cushions will angle up. The chair, at a scant 10 pounds, needs to be heavier so it is more sedentary and comfortable.Hope this helps! :)
