Digital Signatures are a standard in security and cryptography for applications, and are becoming more widespread in their use. This paper discusses industry standards and support for use of Digital Signatures in the Web Service area, and outlines reasons why Digital Signatures are important, as well as why they are being adopted quickly. The paper also goes into more detail about public key cryptography, public measures and acceptance of signatures, and then explains how the code signing process works, with specific reference to the SignCode utility from Microsoft's Visual Studio .NET.
