Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Co-created by Academy Award-winner James Cameron (Terminator, Titanic) and Emmy Award-winner Charles H. Eglee, "Dark Angel" is a sci-fi adventure series set in the post-apocalyptic U.S. of 2019 and stars Jessica Alba as the genetically engineered Max --"a revved-up girl trying to make a run-down world a better place." The series airs Friday nights (9PM ET/PT) on FOX. The soundtrack features "Trouble Again" from John Forte with Tricky and "My Neck, My Back," one of the fastest breaking Crossover/R&B hits in the country from Dirty South artist Khia. Also included are "Bring It To Me" from Samantha Cole and Public Enemy and MC Lyte doing "Dark Angel Theme." The soundtrack presents the cream of 2002's hip-hop crop in a dazzling array of sounds from both the new and old schools. All the cuts on the album have either been used in the series or will soon appear in upcoming episodes of the show.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sent From Up Above - Chuck D & Mc Lyte!, April 24, 2002
By RedCarpet (beverly hills, ca United States) - See all my reviews
This is not a bad attempt at a soundtrack album for a teen tv show. I mean how many tv soundtracks feature a duet with Chuck D and MC Lyte? Although they are two of the most talented mc's that hip hop has to offer, they aren't exactly considered maistream in today's InSync, Nelly, Britney Spears era. Kudos to FOX for bringing the two together.

There are some filler songs on here, certain songs that I can definitely do without. But to get to the few gems on this cd it is worth fast forwarding the rest. Songs that stand out for me are "Dark Angel Theme", "No Dealz", "Candy", "The Life" and "The One".

I have been waiting for a duet with Chuck D and Mc Lyte. Their voices blend beautifully on "Dark Angel Theme" bringing me back to hip hop's late 80's/early 90's golden era. My friends and I have been bumpin' this song non-stop! A tv show theme? Yes! It is definitely more hardcore PUBLIC ENEMY than mainstream tv show. The banjos on Mc Lyte's "No Dealz" really make this track stand out. Her voice sounds better than ever and I hope this is the first of many new songs to come from her! "Candy" and "The Life" were both put out previous to this album but seem to work here as well. "The One" totally fits into the Dark Angel theme. It's mysterious and actually quite bangin' for a love song. I am pleasantly suprised.

I guess a tv soundtrack can't get much better than this. And this cd is worth getting for the hisoric theme song alone.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not a true soundtrack, April 27, 2004
This is just another collection of pop music, labeled as a soundtrack with the pretense of cramming the music into the show. The background music and ambient soundscapes of the show, totally lacking from this album, would surely be more pleasant listening, and if you're looking for the real music of the show, this "soundtrack" is sure to leave you cold.

4.0 out of 5 stars A Pulsing Soundtrack That Appeals, May 6, 2002
I'm not normally a hip-hop fan, and I was surprised to find that every track on this album appealed to me in some sort of way. The soundtrack truly fit to the show, because I could imagine the music playing as a backdrop to the tough characters on Dark Angel. There were several tracks I took an instant liking to. For example, the Dark Angel theme, which I heard completely on the second-to-last episode this season for the first time, it is a wonderful mix of Chuck D and MC Lyte- Both make the song memorable and beautiful. Another one was Candy, by Foxy Brown featuring Kellis. The rhythm and of course, the cocky lyrics, fit Max and Alec to a T. Bring It To Me, via Samantha Cole, is definitely the upbeat song that is as ballad-y as Max and Logan's relationship will ever get. The remix is even better, and the rest of the tracks are excellent. As a reminder, I am NOT a hip-hop fan. But this album genuinely has an all-around appeal.
