You will laugh and then laugh some more.., July 29, 2004
The Naked Gun series is probably one of the funniest movie sagas ever created. And that is quite the statement when you look at all the other series out like for instance Scary Movie.
But Nakid Gun: From the Files of Police Squad, Naked Gun 2 1/2 the Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33 1/3 The Final Insult are all gems and full of non stop laughs within.
Leslie Nielson is a perfect choice as Lt. Frank Dreben, a bumbling police detective who works for a special division of the police force known as "Police Squad". Along for the ride is his partner Nordburg (performed by O.J. Simpson) and the captain Ed (George Kennedy) all provide more then a handful of laughs as they bumble through from location to location in serach of the would be criminal. Of course no cop is complete without a woman to fill your every hearts desire and the woman for Frank is Jane Spencer (Priscilla Presley) who seems to always be mixed in with the wrong crowd in all 3 movies only to learn that she always had what she needed in Frank each time.
The first movie, The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad, is definitely the cut above the other two. Full of laughs, originality, sight gags and one of the funniest end scenes of a movie ever. This movie was pretty much a spin off of the failed tv show in the early 80s named "Police Squad" and kept a lot of the jokes from the show within except being able to stretch a lot to the PG 13 rating. Lots of sexual inuendo, one liners and weird situations make this a laugh a minute. Frank has to stop a rich business man (Ricardo Montebon) from using a hypnotic mind control device so he can kill the Queen of England. The adventures take us from the Middle East to Drug Boats to Hospitals and to a baseball game like no other. This movie has some of the best and most hysterical lines ever in a movie. Just this movie alone makes the set worth it.
Naked Gun 2 1/2 continues with the story of Frank Dreben but this time the focus is on the White House and Washington DC where a mad man played by Robert Gullet heads a group of energy themed businesses (Oil, Nuclear, Coal) who has to stop Dr. Meinheimer from giving a report that will advise the president go for safer and more environmentaly safe methods of energy which would cause the energy companies to lose millions of dollars. All the while Frank has to try and fix his relationship with Jane and pevent a nuclear bomb from going off. While not as funny and witty as the first it still has its moments. Lots of good gags dealing with Barbara Bush and spoofs lots of well known movies in various ways. Very funny and a worthy sequal.
The last movie in the series, Naked Gun 33 1/3 takes the action back to LA where Frank has retired and finaly married his true love Jane. But retirement isn't to be as Ed and Nordburg need Frank to go undercover to find out what Rocco (Fred Ward) and his girlfriend Tanya (Anna Nicole Smith) plan to target with his new super bomb. Frank has to infultrate a jail and follow Rocco's every move all the while trying to fix things with Jane who left him due to his returning to active duty. The movie isn't as wity as the first two but still has some very funny moments. It is a good watch and a nice way to end the series overall. The opening and ending scenes are probably the best while everything in the middle comes off more as filler.
All three contain comentary from the writers of the movie and with each movie about 80 minutes in length you can watch them over and over so you can laugh again and again. This is a wonderful series and I can't recomend it enough. If you want to see a funny laugh out loud set of movies, this is the set to get. Brillient acting, great music that flows through all three and wity and funny jokes.. you won't be sorry adding this triology to your colletion today.

Genius, April 17, 2003
In 1980 Leslie Neilson went from serious respectable roles to the doctor on board a chaos controlled plane, in the first spoof, Flying High. The Naked Gun series is the epitomy of spoof comedy. Even the final credits are hilariously funny. The right blend of serious attitudes to insanely stupid things is what makes this work. "When i see a queerly dressed man stabing someone in full view of 100 people, i shoot the bastard thats my policy!" "That was a park production of Macbeth. You killed 5 actors, good ones." Genius lines such as this fixed the first Naked Gun as a classic. The aptely named Naked Gun 2 1/2 fell right into place. "Whats he doing in the Red Light District?" " Sex Frank?" "Not right now Ed we have work to do" Even better. The third lacked the puch the other 2 had but was still hilarious. But the one defining thing for all naked guns is the credits at the begginning. The top of the police car going all sorts of places. Womens change rooms, Star Wars, the whomb and many other out of the blue locations. These are all winners!

The Best Satirical Comedies Around, April 22, 2002
What can I say about the Naked Gun movies except that they are absolutely hilarious. The fact that they are being released in a DVD box set is indeed an added bonus. These movies star Leslie Nielson who plays "not-so-bright" Lt. Frank Drebin of Police Squad. These films along with the Airplane! movies set the standard for satirical comedy. The films co-star Priscilla Presley, O.J. Simpson (remember him?), George Kennedy, Ricardo Mantalban, Robert Goulet, Fred Ward, Anna Nicole Smith, et al. These are not by any means meant to be "serious". They're the type of movies you can just sit back and let loose from reality for a few hours. So for those of you who haven't seen these yet, and you want "laugh-out-loud" fun, look no further.
