Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Familiar to wardrobe crews in the fashion and entertainment fields, wand steamers like this one press wrinkles out of garments, drapes, and upholstery quicker and easier than irons--and they won't "shine" or scorch fabrics. This 1,300-watt steamer shoots high-velocity steam jets out of a 6-inch-wide head to smooth any fabric from sheer silk to thick wool. A removable water tank provides up to 75 minutes of steaming time. The steamer heats in a minute and then rolls to work on sturdy casters. Garments and drapes can be pressed where they hang, including closets, or garments can be hung from the steamer's telescopic rod, which rises as high as 65 inches above the floor. For storage, the rod has a holder for the wand; or the rod can be removed; or it can be retracted so the steamer's 5-foot flexible hose with the wand attached can be clipped to it (clip included).

Other features include an automatic safety shutoff in case the steamer runs dry, a low-water indicator light, a stay-cool wand handle, and a cord-wrap in the rear. The steamer's plastic base measures 10 inches wide, 15-1/2 inches high, and 15-1/2 inches deep. The steamer carries a one-year warranty against defects. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Life gets easier!, July 29, 2002
By "kimwhite9" (Winchendon, MA United States) - See all my reviews
Don't throw your iron away, but take down that old ironing board and leave it down for the most part! This is an amazing appliance for someone on the go. It's small and collapsible so it can be easily stored in your closet. You can wheel it out of your closet and have it ready to go in one minute. It handles some fabrics better than others but it is great on knits. Also great on cottons and linens, but true to form washable silk is still a challenge. One thing is for sure -- you won't burn the garment, like you can when using iron that is set too hot. If your looking for a crisp seam you might be a little disappointed, but not in all cases because once you get the knack and with a little effort you can have that sharp crease.
I used a professional garment steamer while working for small clothing retailer. I admit I was skeptical about how well this would perform stacked against a professional steamer, but I was pleasantly surprised. Additionally, I was hoping that this purchase would not be one of those things that sat around the house and never get used or the type of purchase you try once, hate it, and end up returning it. When I purchased the garment steamer I also purchased an iron. The iron stayed in the box for 4 weeks, untouched, while the Conair GS10 Deluxe Fabric Streamer got used almost every day. I am keeping both, this fabric steamer makes things much easier in most cases. I say go ahead and indulge - you won't be sorry.

1.0 out of 5 stars Defective, December 19, 2002
By A Customer
After extensive research and being impressed by both glowing reviews I felt completely confident ordering two of the Conair Garment Steamers, one for me and one for my sister. Immediately, after opening the box we were impressed by the high quality of the machine. However, it was soon obvious that the unit did not make adequate steam to remove tough wrinkles from a silk blouse, it leaked water on the floor, steam escaped from the bottom connection, and it left giant water spots on the garment.

The second unit did not work at all until the reset button was pushed, but initially it did seem to be a winner, it made copious steam very quickly and did a fantastic job of wrinkle removal-no water spots either. However, the hose got dangerously hot-a big draw back and steam escaped near the handle making it impossible to hold after a period of time. This machine leaked when moved. Both units were returned.
I own the EuroPro professional steam cleaner which makes wonderful steam, it does not leak, the hose does not get hot and neither does the handle. I actually love cleaning with it. Like the Conair machines this EuroPro unit was purchased after I read a detailed review on its virtues.
Maybe we were just unlucky with these particular Conair units, but we are taking no chances and won't be purchasing these again.

4.0 out of 5 stars As good as it gets, if you hate ironing or dry cleaning, August 5, 2003
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
We just got this unit because both my wife and I hate ironing our clothes and refuse to make dry cleaning part of our monthly budget. So far, the experience is positive, with some comments to be made. For positives, it's a lot easier to use than an iron, that's for sure, and if you pay for dry cleaning, this will pay off for itself in less than three months, most likely, if you have some 10+ shirts to iron every month.

As for negatives, it can be a bit inconvenient to use, since the shirts need to be hanging in order to be steamed, which leaves the problem of having only one hand free to "stretch" them while you steam them. Also there's the imminent danger of getting burned, which is minimized (for sure) if you follow the instructions (you know? that little book that us men sometimes prefer to skip, so that we can get "down to business").

In the end, don't have huge expectations. This will do the job, yes: you will be able to wear your shirts to work, but (and this is a big BUT) don't expect your shirts to look as if they'd been starched at the cleaners, because that ain't going to happen. Still, this is the second best thing. Worth getting it.
