Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The versatile, affordable Canon PowerShot A100 features a 1.2-megapixel sensor (for 1,280 x 960 images for prints at sizes up to 5 by 7 inches) and 3.2x digital zoom magnification. The built-in flash operates automatically with a feature that reduces red eye, but it can also be turned on or off manually for photographers seeking greater control.

The A100 offers a variety of shooting modes--such as auto, manual, movie, sepia, and black and white--to add style to your photos. You can effortlessly compose your shots using either the optical viewfinder or the 1.5-inch LCD monitor.

The included 8 MB CompactFlash memory card stores up to 32 photos at normal settings, or over a minute of video if you are shooting in movie mode. The A100 connects easily to your PC with the included USB cable so you can easily edit, e-mail, or print out your photos. The camera uses two AA batteries.

5.0 out of 5 stars For this price - its Great!, May 19, 2002

Wonderful Camera! This is my first digital camera, but I've used them and work and my wife has one also. This Canon A100 is easy to use, Takes clear pictures, and does not drain the batteries. It has been a real joy to own.

The only drawback was no optical zoom, but that I still think for the price it is a great camera to own, I take my everywhere.

5.0 out of 5 stars Very pleased, October 12, 2002
By "markandkathy" (Bangor, ME United States) - See all my reviews
Expecting a new baby, my wife and I decided to buy a digital camera. After a lot of research we settled on the Canon A100. We had very little digital camera experience so we made our pick of the A100 mostly on price.

To our suprise, the camera performs very well in all lighting conditions. We have taken several shots indoors without the flash (to protect the baby's eyes) and they generally turn out great.

This camera also has a video mode the performs quite well. It takes 20 second clips (without sound) and performs better than other cameras I've tried that cost twice as much.

For a good, all purpose, all around camera that you aren't afraid to use (drop, have stolen, misplace) I believe you cannot do any better.

You must purchase rechargable batteries, so keep that in mind when comparing to other cameras.

4.0 out of 5 stars good for cheap price... i think, July 24, 2002
By A Customer
first off, i got this one as a gift and was curious how much they spent on me, so i can't rate value since amazon is currently not displaying the price. that said, it works well. i got it before a trip to hawaii and took pictures at 640x480 and they came out really good and it was easy to use. the batteries lasted the whole week (probably would last longer if i hadn't spent half the time looking at stuff through the lcd screen). when i got home and downloaded them to my computer, there were a few problems. i had to reinstall the software and turn the camera on and off and replug things, but after i got it working, i found the software to be pretty good. then the batteries ran out, so i got some rechargeables and they work fine. my friends all have digital cameras and they are all better, but they spent at least 300 bucks and the pictures from mine are just as good, as far as i can tell.

if you just want a digital camera for little photos, this is a good one, just make sure you buy rechargeable batteries and a bigger memory card.
