The CFD-S500 CD/radio cassette recorder sports a convenient handle so tunes can go anywhere you do, whether blasting them for friends or listening in private through the supplied stereo headphones. The unit's CD player uses a one-bit digital-to-analog audio converter for pristine sound, and audio CD-R/CD-RW compatibility means the box will play home-brewed music mixes as well as prerecorded CDs.

The CFD-S500 includes a digital AM/FM stereo tuner, too, boasting 30-station memory presets (20 FM, 10 AM) and one-button tuning. Four electronic sound modes (rock/pop/jazz/vocal) let you tailor the sound for listening to various different types of music or in different environments, while Mega Bass sound enhances low-frequencies in any sound mode. A feature called Mega XPAND widens your perceived sound stage to provide a fuller, richer sound overall.

With synchronized CD/cassette dubbing, CD playback commences just after cassette recording begins. The stereo record/playback cassette deck provides direct recording from either the tuner or the CD player. Other features include ported speakers, 20-track CD programming, shuffle play, and repeat play (one/all/program).

I like this boombox for its versatility, appearance, and ease of use. The sound quality is excellent. The features I use most often are the CD player with the sleep function. I compared other models and prices and am happy with my choice. For the price, I think it packs a lot of features and quality.

This one is the best that I've ever heard at this price range it's even better than those over hundred dollars. It doesn't look pretty but excellent sound. I thought SONY just over priced on everything they make. I was wrong.

I bought this as a gift for my mom (she's visiting right now) & she's complained that the buttons are a little stiff & the cassette door doesn't open & shut too easily. She isn't too impressed...
