Editorial Reviews

About the Artist
Thom Birch, an Irish American, was born and raised in the Bronx. He performed in a motown style soul band as a child, as well as performing as a folk singer. It was the street environment of the Bronx that developed Thom's musical style and unique sound. The past twenty years brought him to become a nationally renowned US yoga instructor and skillful Sanskrit chanter. The CD, "Chanting Soul", is where urban American music meets classical Eastern chanting. Thom is retired from teaching yoga and is presently devoted to an exceptional musical career. His live performances leave the audience in a standing ovation!

Product Description
This CD contains soulful, musical arrangements, blended with American rock rhythm sections. The lyrics are mostly an ancient Eastern style chanting, including Tibetan and Hindu mantras. The delivery of the music is spirit moving and filled with sounds that awaken Self. The sound is peaceful yet infused with sensations of positive energy. SPECIAL RECOGNITION: On January 21, 2003, "Ode to the Lotus" and "Shiva Dance" were aired on WLNG Eastern Long Island, during a special edition show !

5.0 out of 5 stars Uplifting, May 17, 2002
By Thea Di Sunno (Amagansett, N.Y. United States) - See all my reviews
Chanting Soul, by Thom Birch is truly an uplifting and throughly
enjoyable CD...from the first time I heard it, I felt very drawn to Birch's almost haunting chants and the upbeat jazz guitar background. It stirs one's soul, and for me, brings a feeling of inner peace as I listen to it. It is a CD that could be played at anytime...wonderful backgound music for a dinner party...creating almost a nightclub atmosphere as you listen to it. If you want a lift, a comforting peace, and just plain good listening, I highly recommend this CD.

This is not devotional chanting for meditation. This is real music! The songs are very well done.

5.0 out of 5 stars It's soul, not just chanting., November 20, 2002
By A Customer
The words in this CD give it a peacefulness, but it's the beautiful singing that makes it great listening. This is soul music.
