Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

Combining four premium quality machines in one, the HP D155 OfficeJet is ideal for offices with high-volume production needs and limited space. Weighing just 35 pounds, the unit includes a printer, flatbed scanner, fax, and high-speed color copier. It also allows you to print photos directly from your digital camera.

The unit can scan objects up to 8.5 by 14 inches; thicker objects like books and magazines are easily accommodated, so your original archives stay protected during scanning. With the unit's 48-bit color, 8-bit grayscale, photo resolution up to 1,200 x 4,800 dpi, and print resolution of 1,200 x 600, your documents will look their best.

The printer churns out sheets at 19 pages per minute in black and 16 ppm in color. Three input trays handle 250 sheets of standard paper in letter size and legal size, as well as up to 20 envelopes or individual sheets of labels, transparencies, card stock, or glossy photo paper.

The copier can produce 99 duplicates from a single original, and a simple button reduces or enlarges from 25 to 400 percent. The fax supports color and monochrome faxing and includes broadcasting, forwarding, polling, auto-redialing, and a junk-mail barrier.

The D155 is compatible with Windows and Macintosh systems and connects via parallel or USB port. Hewlett-Packard includes a one-year warranty covering parts and service.

2.0 out of 5 stars Impressive Feature Set, Problematic Software and Networking, October 29, 2002
Being an early adopter of technology, I purchased the d155 xi hoping that I would get the best multifunction available. Unfortunately, I was somewhat disappointed. While the d155xi has an incredible feature set, including

1) Double-sided color printing
2) Double-sided color copying
3) Jet Direct Networking Capabilities
4) Dual Paper Trays
5) Direct Scan to Document
6) Document Feeder
7) Dual Paper Trays
8) LCD Status screen

-- the software and connectivity are problematic. In addition, the black text is simply not laser quality.

The first red flag was delayed release of "HP Manager" (i.e. "HP Nightmare" software), which wasn't available for Windows XP even though XP had been available for six months back in April 2002. This is the application that handles printing, scanning, and some administrative features. It finally came a month later, but was highly problematic. After installing and uninstalling the 45 MB manager software several times, I gave up trying to operate the printer via Ethernet. The instructions are woefully inadequate and leave critical details absent. Effectively, they indicate the operation of the printer via DHCP is not recommended, although possible. I tried installation on both DHCP and fixed IP with no luck. Essentially, the manager stops recognizing the printer after a while and it isn't clear why. Eventually, I reverted to USB, effectively wasting the [amount] networking feature..

Another problems is the black text quality. While the photorealistic color printing is quite impressive, the black text is not up the quality of a circa 1990 laser printer. After adjusting various settings, I still could not get laser-quality text on any form of paper -- inkjet, bond, or other. Another annoyance is when ink gets low, it repeatedly flashes an amber light and stops printing - even though there are several more pages left. Apparently, this is to boost ink revenues, which cost about [amount] for black and [amount] for color.

Another minor annoyance is the noise. It is extremely load and will actually shake a table as the print heads are accelerating back and forth. When printing in draft mode, it will often spit pages out onto the floor, making proper ordering quite difficult.

What is impressive about the printer, and somewhat ironically the only part I had serious questions about before my purchase, is the document feeder and scanning capabilities. The document feeder has never jammed. Combined with Adobe Acrobat 5.0, I have been able to become virtually paperless, often scanning 100 page documents. While it only scans about five pages per minute, the reliability of the feeder allows me to go about my work why large documents are scanning.

In summary, it is an impressive product if the HP Manager software worked under various networking environments. Perhaps with suitable updates, the software will allow the hardware to live up to its potential.

1.0 out of 5 stars never again, September 25, 2002
By Sam Spicola (Colorful Colorado) - See all my reviews
I purchased this HP as an upgrade to my well used and almost used up brothers 9600 what a mistake. I should have taken the other review seriously. This machine is constantly getting jammed and destroying paper. It also grabs two sheets and begins printing on one and finishes printing on the other. All of this is bad enough but having had this machine hooked up for 4 days now it is already telling me that it is low on toner. I dont know if everything hp makes is [...] or not but this unit sure is. oh also it is so loud that I think it possessed. DO NOT BUY THIS [...]! (but if you do want it check on ebay I will be listing it tomorrow)

1.0 out of 5 stars Do Not Buy HP Printers unless...., August 4, 2008
DO NOT BUY HP PRINTERS unless it is a New model.

When it goes off warranty (like in 4-5 years) God help you.

I had bought a OfficeJet d155xi All-In-One 4 years ago. The printer worked well for 4 years. Now it makes a lot of noise and neither prints nor faxes.

I spent 8 hours with various HP tech Supports, and Registering my Info many times, ONLY to find that HP has Stopped supporting this model.

The Rep said that the model is OBSOLETE. Ridiculous. I spent $700 and in 4 years this is Obsolete! Not Funny.

THE OTHER PROBLEM WITH HP is that they put a Chip on their Inks which has a Clock. If you use the ink after 18-months from Manufacture, the Printer will STOP! So you CANNOT Stock up on Inks. HP forces you to pay full price for small quantities of Ink.

I CANNOT BELIEVE THAT HEWLETT PACKARD WOULD ENGAGE IN SUCH CONSUMER UNFRIENDLY PRACTICES.

Buy HP only when on-sale, because in my eyes the HP Brand is Tarnished.
