Product Description

Amazon.com Review

Able to clean up both wet spills and dry dirt, this cordless hand vacuum is perfect for the house, car, boat, or motor home. Two speeds provide extra suction power when it's needed. It mounts conveniently in its recharging base either on a wall or on a horizontal surface--or the charging base doesn't need to be mounted at all, and the vacuum can be moved from place to place attached to the base. A crevice tool for hard-to-reach areas and a squeegee for wet spills store in the vacuum. The bagless vacuum has a transparent dirt cup with a filter that snaps off the power housing for emptying. The filter is Black & Decker's improved double-action type, which has three times the surface of previous DustBuster filters. It's washable and replaceable. Equipped with a 4.8-volt battery, the vacuum runs 10 minutes without needing recharging. It measures 16 inches long and 4-3/4 inches wide and carries a two-year warranty against defects. Wall anchors and screws for mounting are included. --Fred Brack

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great Dust Buster Product!!, June 11, 2003
By Happy Mom (Yorktown, Va United States) - See all my reviews
I bought this handheld vac for our "den" that has the hamster cage and fish tank - After getting worn out by pulling my big vaccuum out everyday to clean up the mess the hamster would make every night.

I was very attracted by the price ... and after using it I was attracted by the features. The crevice tool makes it easy to get into the grooves around the baseboards..under furniture and in small places. It's also perfect for my washer/dryer room (which my dryer makes a bit of a mess also:0) The fact that it's cordless makes it even easier - it's small enough to put in a convenient place and not have to lug out the big vaccuum for small messes. It's perfect for bathrooms, kitchens, laundry rooms, etc.

The 4.8 Volts may not be the strongest volt you can have on a cordless vac - but it is strong enough for this handheld vac. I've not had a problem with it picking up - it's got good suction - I'm not disappointed at all.

I grew up with my Mother owning a Dust Buster - she used it every day for years!!! She only replaced it because of the upgraded features. My experience with the Black & Decker Dust Busters is that they are reliable, sturdy and will last for years to come!

If you have a problem with finding filters - there are Black & Decker filters available online at their website.

You won't be disappointed with the quality, price or performace of this wet/dry handheld vac (and I should also add cordless).

1.0 out of 5 stars If you care about the environment, don't buy this Dustbuster, June 29, 2004
By zee1 "zee1" (New York, NY) - See all my reviews
I was attracted to this item because you always need something like this for small jobs around the house, and the price is great. But when it arrived in the mail, I read the instruction manual and it said that the rechargeable battery pack, once fully dead, is not replaceable. I didn't see any info on replacing the batteries, only recycling, so I called Black and Decker. They confirmed that the typical battery life is about 3 years, after which you just throw the ENTIRE UNIT away. Nowhere in the product description online does it say anything about this, just that one short sentence in the manual stating that the batteries are irreplaceable. If you're as incredulous as I was, call them and ask for yourself: (800) 544-6986.

I guess that's why this item is discontinued, and I've just returned mine to Amazon, who should have added this info to the product description. Anyway, it's terrible for the environment, and I wonder what on earth Black and Decker was thinking when they came up with this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good little worker, February 25, 2004
By Mistaken Missive "MM_5" (Richardson, TX USA) - See all my reviews
I bought this to clean up after my bird and I love it! The suction level is not super high, but this is good for my needs as a higher suction would rip my rugs up. This model does not have a brush and is not intended to remove stains or ground in stuff. It's just for spills and messes. I use it strictly to pick up little bits of bird food scattered under his playpen and shreds of paper. It also does a dandy job to get up cat hair from the couch. I was surprised at the size of some of the items it picked up. The wet feature makes it safe for sucking up bits of fruit and other wet messes like bird poo. I love the little filter in there, as it cleans the air before blowing it back out. (Huge plus for a bird owner.) It empties easily once you figure out that you must remove the filter THEN the cup. The charge lasts long enough for me to clean all around the cage, pen, and 3 couches. One thing I will warn is that it looks like there is more room when it is in fact full, so if you notice it's not sucking, empty it. I think I got my money's worth. It was misery cleaning up after my bird before I got it!
