Superdrag kicks arse again...Knoxville style, July 11, 2002
Track listing: 1. Baby Goes To 11 2. I Can't Wait 3. The Staggering Genius 4. So Insincere 5. Extra-Sensory 6. Feeling Like I Do 7. Way Down Here Without You 8. Safe & Warm 9. Remain Yer Strange 10. Her Melancholy Tune 11. Stu 12. Drag Me Closer To YouAs the sticker says (gotta love thier stickers) "If you don't like Superdrag, you don't like rock n' roll". When you get this, press track #3 1st, brilliance. This album is thick with power chords and rockers as well as a few slower catchy tunes we're used to. One of thier harder albums. Ok so Baby.. & Stu are old, well while they sound the same as the past last recordings of these somes songs they sound somehow better here (not sure if they were redone but I'm guessing they were in some way). Anyways this album is classic Superdrag, catchy as hell. They have the knack (no pun) to craft tunes that stick in your head for days after last hearing them. If you're a fan already get this! It rocks, simply put. "The Staggering Genius" is a total slam pit song. And of course you know "Stu" rocks out. "Drag Me Closer To You" is a stomper in the vein of Kiss or Urge Overkill sorta (has a 70's hard rock feel). If you don't know the band they are one of thee best power-pop/post-punk bands around. I don't like to compare bands really but they should be as big as Weezer (they toured with them many a time). Do yourself a favor and pick up anything you can from this band...great lyrics of melancholy, dispair, frustration, feeling alone, anger and lost loves with bursts of mania. They'll get you singing along in no time. John Davies voice is so damn good. Other great bands in similar vein I can think of offhand are The Insomniacs, Hi-Fives, Teenage Fanclub, Wilco..dead bands like the Kinks, Big Star, Beatles, Who, Pretty Things, T-Rex, Replacements, Real Kids (well not really dead), Urge Overkill, Best Kissers in the World, etc come to mind.
