Offering 32X (CD) and 8X (DVD) read speeds and 10X (CD-RW), 12X (CD-R), and 2.4X (DVD+RW and DVD+R) write speeds, the unit will keep your computing environment humming along nicely. Moreover, its 2 MB Power-Burn buffer technology guards against faulty burns.

Included on the front fascia are a finger-triggered volume wheel, a headphone jack for silent listening, an LED indicator light and a quick eject button.

Sony's second-generation DVD+RW drive now supports recording of write-once DVD+R discs for optimal 2-way compatibility, with both set-top DVD players and DVD-ROM drives. The new DRU-120A combination DVD+RW/+R/CD-R/RW burner is an ideal replacement for a CD-RW drive as it can record 4.7GB DVD+R/RW discs as well as CD-R/RW discs. DVD+RW is a rewritable disc with the ability to store more than 2 hours of DVD video or up to 4.7GB of computer data, and DVD+R is a write-once disc with the same capacity and enhanced compatibility with DVD players and computer DVD-ROM drives. The internal EIDE drive comes complete with DVD authoring software for converting your video footage into DVD or Video CD formats, system backup software, as well as software for mastering CDs and DVDs.

I bought this to convert home videos into DVDs. It does a great job and the DVDs make accessing home videos much easier. The included software (neoDVD) did an OK job, but for some reason the DVDs it made locked-up on two of my three DVD players. I bought ulead's Movie Factory and found it to be more flexible and the DVDs it make were playable on all of my DVD players. So far I've burned about 20 DVDs and several CDs with it and I've never had one go bad.
