5.0 out of 5 stars Post-9/11 Spiritual Song, July 25, 2002
By Zuggzugg (Cohoes, NY USA) - See all my reviews
The reviewers who are trashing this song just don't get it. The Born to Run days were over 25 years ago. This song is from a much more mature, introspective artist. It has powerful lyrics reminiscent of how we all felt in the days after 9/11. A great combination of sorrow, pain, and hope.

5.0 out of 5 stars Bruce Rises Again!, July 18, 2002
The first single off the new CD "The Rising" is a great "instant classic" Bruce Springsteen tune. Chock full of all the things you've come to expect from the Boss. Great lyrics, a sing along chorus and a melody that'll stick in your head after one listen. Most of the songs written for the new CD are dealing with Bruce's thoughts and feelings regarding the events of September 11th and the aftermath. No other artist that I'm aware of has touched on the subject matter so poignantly. The best thing about this single and the CD, is it's the first full band recording since "Born In The USA." Come on up for the Rising!
You'll be glad you did.

5.0 out of 5 stars Hope not despair, July 22, 2002
By "borntosurf" (Vienna, Austria) - See all my reviews
Different to what I first expected "The Rising" to be, it's not a flat song about resignation and despair but a song with an enormous power in it - the lyrics and the music allow the sadness and empty feelings of the 9/11 attacks, but they turn them instantly into a great feeling of hope.
"The Rising" shows us how not to give up but to overcome!

It's goosebumping how neatly Bruce Springsteen did his work to encourage the U.S. people and the rest of this free world to "come on up for the rising"!

And as Springsteen wrote in "Mary's Place": "My heart stops for this rising..." and it really seems that it does!

5.0 out of 5 stars This CD is right for the times!
Listen to the words and rock with the band. Nothing short of A+ from the all-time rock and roll concert performer! He is best live, always was and always will be.

5.0 out of 5 stars Okay, which is it?
Is The Rising an album cut like the Track Listing says, or is it a Live cut, like the Editorial review says?

3.0 out of 5 stars LAND OF HOPE % DREAMS
The new CD is pretty good and I got this already but I got this one for the Live version. It's typically "LIVE" in that it drags on at the end but otherwise a good song.

5.0 out of 5 stars Here's what happens when a GOOD songwriter addresses 9/11...

I love the Boss. He has written a tone of great songs and has made some really great albums. It is a shame that the Rising is the weakest first single from an album that the Boss... Read more
