One of the first of its kind, the TC-15LV1 boasts not only a flat, 15-inch LCD screen, but a DVD player as well. The unit's widescreen (16:9) dimensions are ideal for viewing DVDs in their native aspect ratios, and full Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound decoding makes it easy to integrate the TC-15LV1 with a surround receiver. It has an EDTV monitor, so the image quality is a step closer to high-definition or HDTV than to standard TVs. When used with a progressive-scan DVD player (or 480p-output DTV set-top box), you'll get seamless, razor-sharp images from favorite movies and concert videos.

The unit's 854 x 480-pixel resolution is enhanced by a 3-D Y/C digital comb filter (which improves resolution by removing blurred edges between colors and reducing dot crawl), a high (500:1) contrast ratio, an exceptional peak brightness of 450 candles per square meter, and wide (160 degrees horizontal by 150 degrees vertical) viewing angles. Active Light Control circuitry automatically detects the brightness levels of the input signal and adjusts the backlight accordingly, enhancing brightness levels for both light and dark scenes. The result is an expanded dynamic range from black to white peak, with crisp, natural pictures that assure dynamic viewing. Active System Control works in tandem with Active Light Control to adjust the video signal according to the image contrast, adding greater brightness to bright scenes and more depth to darker ones.

For connections, you get one high-resolution component-video input and a composite-video input with stereo RCA analog audio jacks. A monaural earphone jack enables private listening, and the monitor also offers internal stereo speakers and tilt functionality. It measures 12.6 by 16.7 by 7.1 inches.
