Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The size of a matchbook and weighing only half an ounce, the 512 MB CompactFlash card from SanDisk is an ultrasmall, removable data storage system. CompactFlash memory has built-in, industry-standard compatibility because its 50-pin card can easily be slipped into a passive, 68-pin Type II adapter card that fully meets PC Card electrical and mechanical specifications.

Expanding functionality and allowing products to be smaller and lighter, CompactFlash has been designed into more than 200 mobile products including digital cameras, handheld PCs, personal communicators, medical monitors, and audio recorders.

The SanDisk 512 MB CompactFlash card comes with a 5-year warranty.

Product Description

CompactFlash is the world's smallest removable mass storage device. CF cards are designed with flash technology, a non-volatile storage solution that does not require a battery to retain data indefinitely. CompactFlash storage products are solid state, meaning they contain no moving parts, and provide users with much greater protection of their data than conventional magnetic disk drives.

2.0 out of 5 stars Sandisk CF cards are mediocre, February 4, 2003
Although a good steal at this price, I would recommend against this card if you were in dire need of speed. This card scored very poorly in the ratings of other cards. I initially thought it would be good to get in on a cheap deal, since this card is cheaper than the other ones. However, since I got the item, I've noticed that it's slower than my other cards, much slower. According to dpreview.com, this card only shows a 14x read (2,085 KB/s) and a measly 6x write (855 KB/s)! If you have one of the newer cameras, like the canon powershot s230, I'd recommend against it! Also, if you had a dell axim or ipaq, you'll notice the speed difference immediately when you try to upload programs on to the card!

Ok for people with like to wait, and people who just want storage not speed, but I'd pay the extra money just for the faster speeds offered by kingston, simpletech or viking.

If you like sandisk, their ultra series are much better.

5.0 out of 5 stars The one to Buy! Great Price/Performance, August 3, 2004
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
Hi Folks,
I own several of these and am a professional photographer.
Don't let technical discussions of how fast or slow the card is steer you away from this deal. Speeds are influenced by many factors and I have never encountered any problems. The Sandisk's price was lowered again recently, and I'll be buying another.

5.0 out of 5 stars good solid card, January 16, 2006
I have had sandisk's card for about 4 years now and my 512 card is a workhorse for me. I have shot with it in Chicago cold and Dallas heat and it's been great, true you can get Sandisk's Ultra 512 for about 8 bucks more. But for my Canon G5 5MP camera, it's fast enough. I can shoot roughly 30-40 in burst mode on my best Jpeg mode.

The card holds 188 at my highest jpeg mode (2592w x1944h) the average computer screen (about 17") is roughly 1200 pixels wide so this is a large image.

If I had a DSLR camera I imagine I would get the Ultra cards but if you are worried you are not getting a fast enough card, match your camera. If you have a DSLR and are a pro, you want speed. But I have a mid-upper range consumer camera so this card is fine for general shooting.

A professional photographer I work with often once told me, It's like getting the most expensive racing tires and putting them on a Honda.

Cheers-
