The Zoom/Modem V.92 PCI Model 3025 is a high-performance fax modem that plugs into a PCI slot of a Windows-based computer. The Model 3025's performance is enhanced by an on-board DSP (Digital Signal Processor) and ITU V.92 / V.44 standard compatibility. The Zoom/Modem V.92 PCI outperforms V.90 modems. ITU V.92 is a new standard for dialup modems. It, and its companion compression standard V.44, makes communications faster, easier and more enjoyable. The "automatic negotiation" or "handshake" at the beginning of a call can be over twice as fast with Zoom/Modem V.92 models than with V.90 modems. The new V.44 compression technology results in significantly faster Web browsing and download speeds. Upload speeds (before compression) with Zoom/Modem V.92 models can be up to 40% faster, too. As an added convenience, the Zoom/Modem V.92 PCI allows an incoming phone call to be received without losing an Internet connection. These dramatic improvements in performance are available to Zoom/Modem V.92 users whose ISP (Internet Service Provider) has upgraded to the new standard. The Zoom/Modem V.92 PCI Model 3025 is capable of receiving data from an Internet Service Provider (ISP) or online service over standard phone lines at speeds up to 56 Kbps uncompressed. Outgoing data is transmitted at speeds up to 48 Kbps. The Zoom/Modem Model 3025 includes V.80 capability for compatibility with H.324 standard point-to-point video telephony over regular phone lines. It also supports Group 3, Class 1 Fax. The Model 3025 also features ZoomGuard. ZoomGuard provides superior protection against lightning, the number one cause of modem failure. ZoomGuard is not only better than the "varistor" protection found on other modems, but also outperforms most stand-alone surge protectors.

Apparently compatibility specs with windows on fax-modems are with regard to the data portion of the modem and not necessarily the fax side. The modem would send faxes w/out problems. However, it failed to detect a ringing phone to receive a fax unattended. All was ok if someone was always around to tell the modem when to start receiving, but that's not what we were looking for in a fax machine replacement. So I can't speak to the data operability of this modem, but if you're looking for fax, I'd look elsewhere.

This may be a great modem, but it doesn't provide Caller ID as I expected. While it does provide caller ID as part of Modem-On-Hold, it doesn't provide it for every incoming call. If you check out this product on the zoom web page, it says
* Caller-ID. No caveats or mention of Modem-On-Hold. This is false advertising, so I'm returning my modem.

Price is too high for what it offers.
There's nothing extraordinary about this modem. Hardware is the same found and much more inexpensive ones.
I'd say, save your money!
