Perhaps you're turned off of video exercises because the dance routines are too complicated. Maybe the moves are too difficult, the music too loud, the tone too "rah rah." Or maybe you're just not as supple as the kids in the videos; a high-impact workout can be deadly to bad knees. The antidote to the The Grind and Crunch aerobics is Leslie Sansone's 2 Mile Walk. This is the perfect beginner's workout for all ages and all sizes. She calls her program Walkaerobics, and while there's more low-impact aerobics than walking, her style is clear, simple, and easy to follow. The idea is that you can walk two miles in the comfort of your own home. The steps are basic--side steps, forward steps, gentle arm movements. If the grapevine is too difficult for you, Leslie encourages you to just do two side steps. If you haven't the space to walk forward four steps, she lets you know you can do it in place. Every quarter mile, the "Fit-O-Meter" flashes on the bottom of the screen, telling you how long you've walked, how far you've gone, and your speed (assuming, of course, you're keeping up with the beat of the low-key music). This provides a clear way to provide goals for yourself--as Leslie says, walk a quarter mile, walk one mile, walk whatever you're comfortable with and then fast forward to the cool down. While the testimonials at the beginning of the tape are extraneous, the workout itself is a terrific introduction to exercise, and easy enough that it just may give you the motivation to break a sweat. --Jenny Brown

5.0 out of 5 stars This is actually a good one, January 12, 2000
By A Customer
I've never had the discipline to exercise regularly - it's more often for a few months and then I lose motivation. I've bought exercise videos before and all they do is create the illusion that I use them to people who see them on the shelf. This one, however, is getting through. I bought it after "falling off the wagon" when my water aerobics class stopped; it was too cold out to want to walk or go to the gym. But this tape is actually something I don't mind doing. It's short enough that I can look at the clock and feel motivated to do it because I know I'll be done in half an hour. The workout is easy to follow and low-impact and you do work up a sweat. I especially like her attention to ways you can modify steps if you don't have the room or aren't sure how to do them; I think she's really sensitive to the things that usually discourage people. She's upbeat without sounding like a cheerleader and encouraging without being patronizing. The steps are generally easy and it's motivating to have the clock showing your progress now and then. I also like how she says you can do 1 mile, 1 1/2, or 2 - when I don't feel like doing anything, or don't feel I have time, I remember that and just do the first half of the tape. That's the best thing about it - she makes you feel like doing SOME exercise rather than nothing, and that leads to doing more. It's really working for me. Also, all the people in the tape exercising behind her are "regular folks" introduced by the amount of weight they've lost, so that's motivating too. I'm already looking into her other tapes (and I never thought of myself as someone who would do this!).

5.0 out of 5 stars Helped me lose 15 pounds (so far), February 5, 2001
By "snakes_n_dogs" (California) - See all my reviews
This was the first of five of Leslie's videos I purchased over the last six months. I enjoy this video quite a bit and use it in various combinations with the other videos I've purchased by Leslie. In my opinion, this is the most intensly aerobic video she has made to date. The workout is a two mile "walk" in 25 minutes, filled with a lot of low impact moves such as sidesteps, grapevines, arm movements and other cardio raising moves you can do in four square feet in front of you television. It is cardio focused with toning a low second place. There are two parts of the video that may be hard on delicate knees, so keep that in mind. If you're concerned about knees, you may want to start with her "Over 40" video; a 30 minute/ 2 mile workout that is very good, but less intense - perhaps start with that and move up to this "2 Mile" video. I found I did better when I did that. If you want a lot of toning and cross-training focus I recommend her "In-Home Walking" video, a 20 minute mile with hand weights or "Walk and Firm: Fat Burner" video, a 35 minute, 2 mile walk/cross training video with timed intervals of aerobic and weight training (using hand weights). Of course, a great addition is her "Miracle Mile" video, great for that short, intense burst of cardio (15 minutes) for those days on the run.

5.0 out of 5 stars Leslie's Best Exercise Video, November 16, 2001
By A Customer
I like several of Leslie Sansone's walking workout videos, but this is her best. From best to worst, here's how I rank the five I own:

2-MILE WALK -- her best video. Good pace, lots of variety. Not too hard for a beginner. It has a mileage gauge, which helps keep me going. (1996)

MIRACLE MILE -- a 1-mile walking workout in 15 minutes, plus a cool down and stretches. Great for those days when I haven't much time but I want to get some quick exercise in. Also good on days of cramps, if tired, etc. (1996)

WEIGHT LOSS WALK -- has 3 20-minute segments of 1 mile, 1.5 miles, and 1.5 miles. Excellent for variety. Handy for those days when I want a different distance. Segments can be done alone or combined for a wide variety of distances -- up to 4 miles. A mix of familiar and different movements. Some of the exercises are a little goofy but it's good variety. Don't like the silent gaps between songs. (1993)

Not recommended:
PLUS 40 WORKOUT -- A 2-mile workout, not nearly as good as "2-MileWalk". Has silent gaps between songs. (1989)

WALK & FIRM -- Leslie with hand weights doing safe and simple exercises. Unfortunately, I really can't get into it, and I've never finished the video. (1998)

Leslie's videos are hard enough but not too hard for people just getting back into exercise. When I use them daily (especially mornings) I find I'm much less hungry all day. I've lost 9 pounds in 3 weeks. I try to exercise daily but usually do so 4-6 times a week. I feel better, sleep better, and have better posture.
