Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
Combining a 2.4 GHz cordless phone with a corded model, the 1480 combo pack is stylish, easy to use, and affordable. The cordless handset utilizes the 2.4 GHz analog frequency, which offers more clarity and greater range than 900 MHz phones. It's a great fit for people who like to do their talking on the move or in garages or attics where corded models typically don't roam. The corded unit, meanwhile, sits in a main room or office, where its three-mailbox digital answering system and built-in speakerphone serve as an operational center. The trio of mailboxes is particularly nice for busy households, as it lets users organize messages according to the recipient, or in a home office setting where home and business messages need to be stored separately. The answering system sports such additional features as 15 minutes of digital recording time, remote access (for checking messages when away from home), call screening/intercept, and intuitive voice prompts.

The speakerphone--a handy bonus for people who frequently have their hands full while talking on the phone--is integrated within the corded base unit. In addition, both the base station and cordless handset include LCD displays that provide caller ID and call waiting data (subscription required), including a log of the last 90 callers and storage for 50 names and numbers each. Users will also appreciate the display-and-dial function, which lets you scroll through the phone's directory and quickly dial the selected number, along with the time/date stamp that lets you know exactly when you received an incoming call. And thanks to the 10 speed dial presets, you'll have quick access to your best friends and favorite restaurants.

Additional features include a memo record function that lets you leave reminder messages for yourself or others, an intercom system for paging family members in another room, variable pulse/tone dialing, an adjustable handset volume level, on-hook dialing, and three-way call conferencing. The bundle, which also includes wall-mounting adapters, a charging cradle for the handset, and a rechargeable ni-cad battery, is backed by a one-year warranty on parts and labor.

What's in the Box
Base unit, corded handset, cordless handset, charging cradle, handset cord, mounting adapter, two telephone line cords, AC adapter, ni-cad battery, wallet card, user's manual.

2.0 out of 5 stars not as good as it should be, August 1, 2003
By Adam "adam18" (Las Vegas, NV) - See all my reviews
A little disapointing in all. I like the features and I did not need two cordless phones. There is a lot of background noise on the cordless handset, but I have already gotten used to it after one week. The corded phone sounds good, and the speaker phone is acceptable, but I have had complaints that it sounds hollow on the other end. It works well enough though. I love the directory, but you have to put all the numbers in to the handset and the base phone seprately. I can understand why, but it does not suit my needs as I live alone and am the only person using both phones. It would be nice if they could communicate. I haven't read the manual all the way through, but I don't think you can even check the messages from the cordless.
The phone looks great. A lot of the cordless phones out there are trying to look like cell phones or some sort of George Jetson appliance. This phone is very understated and looks attractive on my end table. Its also nice not to have two wires coming out, as the handset only needs a power cord.
I would expect a lot more from ATnT. They don't even make this phone. It is made by another no-name company and marketed under their name. I would think that they would take a little more interest in the use of their name.
This phone is nice for the price, but you should consider the above before you buy it.
Thanks for reading

1.0 out of 5 stars Correction: "Good features and price, but poor sound quality, April 16, 2003
By David A. Osborne (Indianapolis, IN 46220) - See all my reviews
On my previously submitted review, please correct "corded" to "cordless" in the 2nd to last paragraph.

The unit appears to be made well and offers good features. The price is excellent for a corded/cordless phone with an answering machine. However, the sound quality is lacking.

There is noticeable background noise on the corded handset when the volume is above level two (out of four). Moving the phone to another jack where another corded phone was previously plugged in (without background noise) did not help. I bought this phone because I did not want the background noise of a cordless phone on my main phone. The noise is not awful, just annoying and surprising for a corded phone.

The cordless phone sounds fuzzy both at the phone and to the person on the other end as well. Switching channels did not help. The phone was much clearer when within 5 feet of the base set, but obviously, that defeats the purpose of having a "cordless" phone.

Although there are few alternatives in this type of phone available, I would pass on this one and keep looking.

3.0 out of 5 stars Generally pleased with this phone, February 1, 2003
By A Customer
This phone had the features I wanted: caller ID, answering system with multiple mailboxes, speakerphone and the combination base/corded phone. I am mostly satisfied, but I think there is some room for improvement: The cordless handset is significantly smaller than the one I had previously. Another annoyance is that the buttons on both phones are rather small. Also, the CIDs are not as vibrant and easy to read as they appear in the pictures. The sound quality is adequate.
