Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
The adage "cheaters never prosper" takes on new meaning after spending a half hour with Zidgel, Midgel, and Fidgel, a trio of space-exploring penguins. After pig-tailed Michelle cheats her brother in a game of Squid-Tac-Toad, our feathered friends whisk her off to Bullamanka in a last-ditch effort to make peace between a couple of galactic kings. It seems that cheating is a universal phenomenon, and the Lizard King is the culprit. Now, Michelle must agree to contest his victory to save the good Bandicoot King from certain doom down the "gurgler." In between clever one-liners and general zaniness, viewers will catch the central message that "when you cheat, everyone loses." From the creators of VeggieTales, 3-2-1 Penguins! adheres to the same winning formula: quality cartoon-style humor wrapped in a timeless moral message, presented in a nonpreachy fashion. While the new series is still a fledgling, once these penguins find their, er, flippers, they will be as well loved as Bob and Larry. (Ages 5 and up) --Lynn Gibson

5.0 out of 5 stars Whoa! Déjà vu!, October 10, 2002
By B.P. "tilley_traveler" (Wisconsin, United States) - See all my reviews
After you've watched the first episode (Trouble on Planet-Wait-Your-Turn) you should see this one!
In the Cheating Scales of Bullamanka, the familiar characteristics of the Penguins are developed a little bit further, making then more interesting and enjoyable. It also includes several scenes that are closely relate to the previous episode. These are hilarious for the fact that they've been added at the perfect time with a clever twist. What I got a kick out of the most was the new landing gear. It's just a silly contraption that I guarantee it will make you laugh out loud!

The video starts with a brief, carry over scene that recaps the origin of the Penguins and the attitudes of the twins. Then things get rolling after Michelle plays a trick on her brother to win a game of Squid-Tac-Toad. The concept and techniques of this strange game are not made very clear. But it's a key element that later teaches Michelle the value of playing by the rules. Which she learns after experiencing a much more dramatic, live version of the game that also requires the participation of the penguins. There are a few new characters that appear in the video, two of which talk with a quick Australian accent. So at first it's difficult to catch their rapid banter, making the video one that needs to be watch again and again.

Next to the collection of Veggie Tales videos, 3-2-1 Penguins is a series that is well deserving of a spot on your self. Colorful, creative, entertaining and educational, it's another example of quality entertainment that will interest the minds of kids and adults. Big Idea does this all with natural ease and this second scenario earns them a five star rating `Fair and Square'

3.0 out of 5 stars 3-2-1 Penguins 2: Not nearly as good as 1st or 3rd, July 19, 2005
A Kid's Review
It's me, StoryMaker. So far we've watched 3 Penguin vedios, episodes 1, 2, and 3. We got em' all from the library, so far we own no Penguin vedios. This is sorta good, but my review for #1 reached 5 stars. This one had 5, but 2 of them fell off because it is my least favorite of 1, 2, and 3 episodes. The only good thing is Michelle, the funny landing gear and the cute Bandicoot king (who sounds like a queen, female) and silly red things the penguins get the ware. It has a false-advertisment box, the pic on the front makes it looks like only Midgel is captured. The back, well, false ad pic of Squid-Tac-Toad because they do not have red things on them and it just looks like life-sized Tic-Tac-Toe. Signed, StoryMaker. "Gotta trust the kid's review!"
