Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com

Brooks & Dunn bring the same blend of honky-tonk and pop ballads to their first holiday offering that they've brought to the country charts for more than a decade, adding a nice bluesy twang to classics like "Winter Wonderland" and "Blue Christmas." Some of this sounds like it could be straight out of Buck Owens's place in Bakersfield, while other spots are reminiscent of Glen Campbell. Which is another way of saying that the instrumentation is nearly perfect on all 11 tracks. Although there are secular standards throughout, almost half the CD comprises obscurities and originals (including the title track) that mostly hold up alongside "The Christmas Song" and other well-known favorites. "Rockin' Little Christmas" does exactly what its title suggests, while the adorable "Who Says There Ain't No Santa Claus," cowritten by Brooks, deserves to become a country holiday standard. --Bill Holdship

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just retreads of standards!, November 22, 2002
By Sandi Jones (Cincinnati, Ohio USA) - See all my reviews

I've been waiting for years to hear Ronnie Dunn sing "Blue Christmas". I am not disappointed. With his great penchant for cry in your beer songs, you KNOW that this man could make you cry over "Blue Christmas". He invoked similar emotions with the original "It Won't Be Christmas Without You". Don't think that the entire disc is maudlin and heavy. Kix Brooks springs some fun energy into songs like "Santa's Coming Over to Your House". The treatments of the standards are respectful of the originals, but not just tired re-treads. This disc is going to get lots of play for years. Thanks Kix and Ronnie! You didn't disappoint me.

This is the first country cd I have purchased. It is great. I had seen the video on tv last year. but didnt give the cd much thought. Well, I heard the title cut again this year and just had to have it. Not only was the title cut great but I had to sit and relax and listen to the complete cd..Belive me, I was not disappointed. I ordered the cd from one of your merchants, RetroDisc. The cd came on time (today) and it was in perfect condition. RetroDisc deservers 5 stars along with amazon. 5.0 out of 5 stars 'It Wouldn't Be Christmas' without my Brooks and Dunn!, December 10, 2002

Wow! What a great collection of songs. They did a professional job and did it their own 'cowboy' way. I have bought three copies so far for friends and family. This is the BEST Christmas CD to come out in a long, long time. My favorites are 'It Won't Be Christmas Without You' and 'Who Says There Ain't No Santa Clause' Thanks Kix and Ronnie for the early Christmas present! Linda (B&D fan club)

Ronnie Dunn is a brilliant singer while Kix Brooks is merely a good singer, but Kix has an outgoing personality that more than compensates for any vocal imperfections. Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars It won't Be Christmas Without You
I love the CD! Some of the old standards are moving, but I think the title song will become a new Christmas classic. The lyrics are great, but the music is incredible.
