Product Description
For kids, adults, and sexy senior citizens. This one-hour DVD is guaranteed success because it follows the logic that the human being can only think of one thing at a time. You will learn the 19 main open chords & 23 songs that will give you plenty of practice to master all 19 chords quickly & easily. Learn how to make a guitar easy to play, how to use small guitars & ukuleles for children & people with small hands. Learn the parts of the guitar & how to tune, & all the tricks that make learning quick & easy. Note: This is a breakthrough in beginning guitar because we sat down & determined how many things "all at the same time" that video lessons were requiring of students. It turned out to be anywhere from 9-12 things at once! That's downright inhumane! Most of the students gave up, & it wasn't their fault. The teaching systems were simply loading them down with too many things at once. The reason we created "Your First Guitar Lesson" was to solve this problem. We give you loads of fun material, but "one-easy-logical-step-at-a-time. Includes: Auld Lang Syne • Amazing Grace • Aura Lee (Love Me Tender) • Away in a Manger • Camptown Races • Do Lord • Greensleeves • Happy Birthday • Heart & Soul • Home on the Range • House of the Rising Sun • Jingle Bells • John Jacob Jingleheymer Smith • Kum Ba Ya • Little Sadie • My Bonnie • Midnight Special • Mountain Dew • Oh Suzanna • Old Time Religion • Sloop John B • This Old Man (Barney Song) • You Are My Sunshine (60 min) (booklet inside the package)

3.0 out of 5 stars It was OK but just OK, August 9, 2004
I was a little disappointed in this DVD. The DVD did have some interesting information in the beginning about what to look for in a good guitar and some good tuning tips. The rest of the DVD went like this, he showed you quickly, how to form 3 cords, then Dan Huckabee would play a song using those three cords, and right to another song using those three cords. Then he would quickly show you a new cord and play a few more songs (very quickly I might ad) which used these cords. And so it went. Song after song of Dan playing songs. Never bothered to tell you any strumming patterns or even that you do not hit certain strings when playing certain cords. He would play the songs at full speed so for beginners there was no hope of keeping up. Dan explained that he did not want to overwhelm a person showing them too much at one time and letting a person focus on cord learning. The DVD did come with a book so if you wanted to learn the folk songs Dan played you can refer to the book. The DVD basically did not cover much at all. One thing was very funny, in the whole DVD Dan never smiled, however at the end they showed clips of him trying to smile for the camera. You could hear the camera guy telling him to smile then Dan would crack up laughing. Kind of like the bloopers at the end. The DVD was lacking in a lot of areas but not a total waste of money. You do get a book that tells you how to play 23 popular folk songs, and some good tips in the beginning, but it was basically lacking in all other areas. Maybe it was disappointing because I had just watched and played along with Learning Guitar for Dummies with Jon Chappell, who does a lot more explaining and covers more basic ground in a easy to follow format. Learning Guitar for Dummies I would recommend. It was a great DVD for beginners.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent teacher. Very thorough!, December 27, 2002
At first, you might find the teacher in this video a little slow and boring, but when you intend to learn to play the guitar, you NEED slow. It takes time and patience to learn any instrument. He's very thorough and encouraging and calm. This was written for all ages. You don't need an expensive guitar to learn to play. A uke would do (4 string). This dvd is very easy to follow.

1.0 out of 5 stars Annoying..., February 21, 2005
By J. Tam "jeneroo" (Capitola, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I bought this because others commented about how easily they could follow Dan. Not true! His lessons were way too fast and on top of that, he has an annoying personality. If you're a true beginner, this cd is NOT for you.
