The principle of the Hoover SteamVac is simple: the machine applies hot tap water and a cleaning agent to soiled carpet, then sucks up the solution, taking ground-in dirt with it. Because the vacuum's suction is so powerful, carpets get clean deep down and dry quickly. This model is built for simple use and efficient floor coverage. It operates in both forward and reverse and has an 11-inch-wide floor nozzle with double agitator brushes and automatic height adjustment. A trigger in the handle controls solution release, and the tanks are translucent so you can see water levels at a glance. The solution and recovery tanks each contain a gallon of liquid and remove from the machine easily for filling and emptying. As a safety mechanism, the SteamVac automatically shuts off when the recovery tank is full. This is especially handy if you're using the vacuum to suck up a spill. You can also use it to rinse carpets without a soap solution. The machine's power switch is operated with a foot pedal, as is the handle release. It comes with quick-release cord hooks, a 20-foot power cord, a built-in measuring cup, and a 16-ounce bottle of Hoover cleaning solution to get you started. --Emily Bedard

Well, so far so good. I was amazed at how dirty the water was when I emptied the container. Wow! Can't believe I waited this long. It cleaned well, but it's kind of heavy for me and I had a problem with the handle release. It seems stiff. Still has nothing to do with the cleaning job though. It's easy to fill and empty.

I have had this Steam Vac for a couple of years. I wish I had had it way back when I first started with kids, but then with kids you can't afford much. Now I am down to kids visiting with grandkids and dogs and cats...but I could no longer stand having to wait for once a year renting a machine to clean even spots. I bought this while my husband was gone, as a splurge mind you...(he got a deal in me...)

It's been wonderful for the most part. It really cleans well for the cost, and of course, as I have learned to use it, it does better. My only complaints are two. I wish the front part which sucks up the hair and everything was much easier to dismantle. As it is I have to go get my jackknife off my keychain and use a phillips screwdriver to take the front panel off. The second thing, is the two moveable bars that hold the dirty water container to the machine...they are made of cheaper plastic and one broke fairly soon. I've been making do with it, and being careful with the other one so it doesn't break, but Hoover would do us a favor by making it a bit heavier plastic and charge five dollars more right there!

My friend has this cleaner, I borrow it often and it works great. I just happen to be looking for one with attachments. As I was surfing for one I found this exact one at KMART on sale for about $58.oo (online only) this is a great deal if you are looking for this model.
