Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

This ultra-lightweight (2.2 ounces) microphone is perfect for recording meetings, presentations, conferences and more. An electret condenser microphone, the ECMZS90 has a small 1-by-4.75-inch footprint and fits easily onto any available surface. A frequency response of 80 to 15,000 Hz in stereo mode and 150 - 20,000 Hz in super-directional mode combines with a 65 dB dynamic range to capture all the important elements of speech, even at a distance.

The ECMZS90 has an output impedance of 1,800 ohms ±30% and an effective output level of -40±3dB in stereo mode, -22 ±4 dB in super-directional high mode, and -28 ±4 dB in super-directional low mode. The ECMS90 runs off of Sony's CR2025 battery, which has a life of approximately 150 hours. The mini plug is gold plated for maximum conductivity, while its L-shape helps ensure that it doesn't come disconnected while in use. The 4.9 foot long cord lets you position the mic a reasonable distance from your recording device.

The ECMZS90 switches between a stereo mode for situations in which several sound sources are positioned close to the microphone (such as a meeting), and a super-directional mode which helps block out unwanted background noise for recording sound sources located further away from the microphone (such as a presentation of lecture). A switchable output level lets you adjust the microphone to suit your recording set-up. The ECMZS90 also comes backed with a 90-day parts and labor warranty.

5.0 out of 5 stars College Student Usage, February 2, 2005
By Tyler Fitch (Central IL) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I received my microphone yesterday and was eager to use if for my Molecular Biology class today. I sit in the back of the classroom which seats close to 50 and recorded the professor who speaks in a soft voice. When I played back the recording, I had to turn my speakers up but the clarity was perfect. I understood every word he said.

I also use the program Microsoft OneNote. I would highly recommend this to anyone who must take notes on any type of lecture. As you record the lecture with this program, it places audio bookmarks to the left of EVERY LINE YOU TYPE. After class, I go back over my lines of notes with a question mark next to them (Ctrl+3 puts a noticable question mark in front of the line). I hit the play button and it immediately picks up the lecture at the point in time that I entered the line. This way, when 50 minute lecture, it doesn't take any searching at all to find what you want. Also, with the Windows Media Audio 9.1 Voice codec, the 50 minute lecture was condensed into a 3MB file - hardly a 4 minute song is size.

I have yet to use the stereo capabilities, but I plan on recording some piano music later. (This is why I bought the version with dual-functionality.)

I highly recommend this product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect for use in lecture, September 28, 2005
I purchased this microphone to record my lectures on my Averatec Tablet PC. I also use Microsoft OneNote. The microphone is superb. I sit in the middle of the classroom, and I took my digital voice recorder back two days after using this mic. The sound clarity is equal to my voice recorder, and I keep the mic on my desk behind my computer. I can start recording exactly when class begins, so no more forwarding through ambient noise to search for the beginning of lecture. My lecture notes are tabbed by OneNote so I can find exactly where my professor discussed a certain topic, and with my tablet, I can draw the figures on my computer that the professor draws on the board. I look forward to finishing my senior year with this mic and using it in grad school.
