Editorial Reviews

Amazon.com
Though he managed a string of early successes, Art's post-Simon & Garfunkel career has been marked by sporadic releases and a seeming indifference to the often-difficult vagaries of the music business. It's that bleak background that makes this release such a warm and pleasant surprise. Garfunkel seems an artist who responds best to the challenges of creative collaboration, and producer Billy Mann has provided him with a sterling pair--singers Maia Sharp and Buddy Mondlock, of L.A. and Nashville, respectively. With the trio's harmonies locking into a familiar, seamless fusion, the resulting album is the freshest music Garfunkel's recorded in years and, conversely, from the opening guitar chords of the joyous "Bounce," a welcome reclaiming of a glorious musical legacy that was rightfully half his in the first place. The ghost of that legendary past doesn't so much haunt this record as breathe a resonant sense of place (New York City) and history (Art's life) into it. Also noteworthy are six songs that mark the singer's first recorded attempts at songwriting, the best of which stand comparison with the best of his fabled S&G canon. --Jerry McCulley

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely his best!, December 6, 2002
By John J Malley (Oswego, IL) - See all my reviews
It's a shame that this cd probably won't get much notice, because it's such a wonderful collection of songs. Billy Mann got Garfunkel, Maya Sharp, and Buddy Mondlock together to work on this project, and what a great idea that was! This cd is one of those small gems in life that suddenly comes around unexpectedly.

Six songs (I think) use Art Garfunkel's lyrics, which were taken from his poetry. Buddy, Maya, and Billy write some beautiful music for Art's words. Most of the rest of the album are Sharp and Mondlock songs, all of which sound great! At times it will remind you of Simon and Garfunkel, Fleetwood Mac, and The Mamas and Papas - always in a good way.

I regret not having this album before I saw them in concert. They gave wonderful performances of about 9 of these songs, and I only wish I'd been a little more familiar with them beforehand. These three sing incredibly well together on stage.

This is exactly the type of music I'd always wished Art Garfunkel would perform. This cd was a very pleasant surprise!

My favorite songs are "The Kid", "Crossing Lines", and "Bounce". There isn't a disappointing song on the cd though.

4.0 out of 5 stars Try it...you'll like it!, November 20, 2002
By Bud Gott (New Castle, DE USA) - See all my reviews
In preparation for seeing Art, Buddy, and Maia in concert, I bought this CD a couple of weeks ago. I'd never heard of Buddy and Maia before and I didn't know what to expect.

Wow, was I pleasantly surprised! This is a VERY good album. The songs have wonderful music and lyrics and the three singers' voices blend together perfectly. I've always enjoyed Art Garfunkel and now I'm anxious to hear more from Buddy Mondlock and Maia Sharp. They're both incredibly talented.

I enjoy all of the songs on this album, but I think my favorites on it are Bounce, Crossing Lines, and How Did You Know. I'll tell ya. . .I'm playing this CD a whole lot more than I thought I was going to be. It's pretty addictive.

Two nights ago I saw Garfunkel, Mondlock, and Sharp in concert. As good as the songs are on this album, they sound even better live. I hope that 'Everything Waits To Be Noticed' is the first of many collaborations between these three excellent artists.

5.0 out of 5 stars Breathtakingly beautiful..., September 27, 2004
By Record Producer (Burbank, CA) - See all my reviews
I've only recently "discovered" Art Garfunkel's music separate from Simon &... I had always heard that his albums were a delight, but I never took the plunge until earlier this year, when I purchased the exquisite WATERMARK, mainly because I'm a huge fan of Jimmy Webb's songwriting.

EVERYTHING WAITS TO BE NOTICED had me a little worried, seeing as I wasn't sure if Art's vocal skills would be overwhelmed in an album that was also featuring other musicians/singers. I discovered within a few minutes that my fears were unfounded. When the "other" singers are heard, they blend in so perfectly with Garfunkel that you hardly notice them. In most cases it sounds like some of the beautiful vocal arrangements heard on Art's other albums.

Garfunkel's voice is every bit as angelic as it has always been, and the "new" styles of singing he sometimes uses on this album still sound just like Art Garfunkel to me. If that makes any sense... What it does mean is that he's still simply one of the best "pure" singers we've ever had.

As for Garfunkel's first attempts at songwriting, there is no way to guess which songs are his and which were written by "seasoned" songwriters. His creations are nothing short of superb, and I hope he continues to explore this avenue of creativity. Just hanging around Mr. Simon probably gave him better songwriting lessons than just about anyone else could have gotten in the past 50 years. Not that Garfunkel's songs are similar to Mr. Simon's, but they are memorable in their own right, and as lovely as the songs on many of Garfunkel's classic albums of the past.

Sometimes you know upon first listening that you will spend a lot of time with a given album, and I am sure that this one will be a friend to my ears for many, many years to come. EVERY Art Garfunkel fan needs this extraordinary release in his or her music library.
