Editorial Reviews

Review
Buckethead has been in Guns N' Roses only for a short while and he's already breaking the rules. On his eighth solo album, the mysterious, gifted guitar shredder and horror-movie fanatic forgoes all loud noises on a spiritual path to find his inner Buckethead. Electric Tears is a New Age mix of slow, meditative soloing and soft acoustic guitars - including a stately, flamenco-styled ode to jazz great Miles Davis - that's light on effects but heavy on atmosphere. This must be what guitar gods listen to when they go to sleep at night. --Guitar World

Product Description
Experience the haunting, beautiful and ethereal side of Buckethead, the fried chicken bucket and white mask-wearing guitar magician who has been described by the likes of Bootsy Collins, Bill Laswell and Carlos Santana as a phenomenal guitar player. Here, Buckethead puts aside his usual ax shredding and calculated mayhem to take the listener on an atmospheric acoustic/electric voyage into his mind. Currently, he is the lead guitarist for Guns 'n Roses, and he also plays lead for Praxis and Giant Robot.

5.0 out of 5 stars Is the bucket full of tears?, August 27, 2005
One thing that surprises me about buckethead is his versatility, you can listen to his albums and never get the exact same idea, or sound. The Sketches of Spain song, is an arrangement of "Concierto de Aranjuez" a classical piece, so he didnt compose it.

The entire album is incredible, you can sit and listen to it over and over and you wont get bored. It seems that he recorded all the guitars by himself, there are pieces with 2 or 3 guitars, sometimes 4, but mainly 2 guitars, one with the rythm and one with the leads, there are no other instruments, but there are a lot of effects (very well used).

Buckethead is very "conceptual" when he composes, unlike most of the musicians out there, and thats not good or bad, is just something he does. You just read the tittle and you will know what is about. I would dare to say that this is his best work so far, he really comunicates what he wants with his sound, very powerfull cd.

I really like "Colma", and "Electric Tears", but personally dont like his other albums, like cuckoo cloks from hell, and monsters and robots, etc.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dreamlike Guitar Voyage , December 4, 2006
Aaah, Buckethead. The man, the bucket, the mask, the myth. I was first introduced to Buckethead with the classic album "Monsters and Robots", which showcases his infamous and bizarrely schizophrenic style of instrumental guitar wizardry. "Electric Tears", however, shows a meditative, melodic and serene side of the man that was not only unexpected, but extremely enjoyable.

Like floating through a delerious state of near-sleep, this album will send your mind on a surreal inner journey. No percussion, no other instruments of any sort; just layer upon layer of acoustic and electric guitar that will overwhelm you in a wash of melody and texture. Neo-futuristic new age music unlike anything else I've heard. Recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not of this earth!, October 26, 2002
By A Customer
I never thought that there could be a more soulful, relaxing guitar record than Buckethead's Colma... until I heard Electric Tears. While better known for his shredding ability, Buckethead shows us here that he is more than capable of adding some emotion to his solos. The only instrument on this album is Buckethead's guitar, so it really gives him the freedom to show the sensitive side from Colma even more, and he doesn't disappoint. This album is a must-have, no matter what genre of music you like.
