New version of Laundry Service with DVD., December 13, 2002
I bought this cd because I really love Shakira and her voice. She is clearly very influenced by not only her Latin roots but her love for rock music especially punk and new wave. She just shows so much talent for her lyric writing and her voice is not your typical one- to me a cross between Grace Jones and Siouxsie. The hits are here with "Whenever,Wherever " ,"Underneath Your Clothes" and "Objection (Tango)" the main attraction. But the best songs are the non hits like the Hedwig like ballad "The One" ,"Fool" and "Rules"--- future hits. Dance numbers like "Ready For The Good Times" and "Eyes Like Yours" really show off her clubbier side. You get Spanish versions of "Whenever Wherever" and "Objection" plus new mixes of them too. The Afro Punk Version of "Objection(Tango)" which is similar to the one she performed on the MTV Video Awards really is better than the B-52's influenced original version. The Acoustic version of "Underneath Your Clothes" I think she also performed on Top Of The Pops. Plus the 2nd disc is a DVD of her performance from the MTV Video Awards as well as MTV's Making the Video and full video of "Objection(Tango)" that showcase her sense of humor and beauty very well. The music on here hopefully will show the US what the rest of the Spanish speaking countries already knew: Shakira rocks.

An Excellent Offer, May 17, 2003
I had wanted Shakira's 'Laundry Service' since it came out, but never got it. But when I saw this offer, cd and dvd for 13 bucks, I new it was time. This is a very solid american debut, and the bonus tracks make it even better. Some of my favorite songs include 'Whenever, Wherever', 'Objection (tango)', and 'Rules'. Shakira will be around for a while (this cd proves it), so if you have not gotten this yet, get this version now. The dvd features are great too! I saw the MTV vma's performance of 'Objection' and am glad to own it now. The music video and making of the music video are great too! There is something for everyone on this, spanish, english, good music, and good tv. I still can't believe it only cost 13 dollars! If you like this, look up her spanish language albums. They are good too.

More than worth it, February 20, 2003
Shakira, along with Marta Sanchez, is one of the most talented Latin singers in years, with a husky voice and a range of different songs. This is "Laundry Service" plus, with a bunch of extra bonuses that make it worth buying all over again. (Or, if you're new to Shakira, buying for the first time)The first disc is filled with the regular tracks of Shakira's "Laundry Service" album, a mix of pop, rock, ballads, Latin music, a haunting Middle-Eastern-influenced song, and others. But in this version, there are also some extra remixes afterward: The Sahara Mix of "Whenever, Wherever," a Middle-East-influenced remix, with the sinuous music similar to "Eyes Like Yours," and more distant vocals punctuated by great drumming. There is the acoustic mix of "Underneath Your Clothes," a simple remix where Shakira simply sings to the accompaniment of a guitar; the beautiful ballad is made even more poignant. Then "Objection (Tango)" is given a fantastic Afro-Punk remix. This is a song that can be remade a thousand ways, and the remix is even more contagiously danceable than the original. And then the DVD! This is great stuff, utterly delightful for any Shakira fan. Her appearance at the MTV 2002 Video Music Awards, singing "Objection" in the manner of the Afro-Punk remix, is priceless; she dances, sings, struts along a platform in bare feet and body-surfs over the crowd. Then there is also the music video, equally entertaining as Shakira storms into a bar and confronts her cheating ex, and receives help from two unusual pals. (And the cartoon fantasy sequence is even better) Then there is the behind-the-scenes portion about the making of that music video, a complicated step-by-step special. Even if you already have "Laundry Service," you may want to get "Washed and Dried." Shakira shows signs of becoming the next Gloria Estefan (intriguingly, Emilio Estefan Jr. is the executive producer), with fantastic CDs that branch out with equally fantastic "extras."
