Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
From a rumbling tidal wave to a shimmering violin, the Acoustimass 15 Series II speaker system was designed to bring the full emotional import of music and film to your living room with depth and clarity. Innovative Bose technology and design let you enjoy Bose's best-performing 5.1-channel speaker system with your other surround-sound components--without the bulk of traditional speakers. The Acoustimass 15 speaker system is also upgradeable for 6.1-channel receivers.

The foundation of this system is Bose's powered Acoustimass module, which features three down-firing drivers and proprietary technology to deliver the highest-impact performance of any Bose home-entertainment speakers. Hear the clarity and proper balance of the lowest audible notes and effects from all channels for both music and movies. You can place the hideaway bass module, or subwoofer, just about anywhere--even behind furniture--and all the sound appears to come from the tiny cube speakers.

As films unfold on your screen, you'll hear the swell of an orchestra and the energy of a busy city street. Five Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays--each only 6 inches tall--produce these 5.1-channel surround sound effects with vivid character that belies their small size. The speaker arrays are optimized to render high and midrange frequencies for natural music presentations and clear dialogue.

The Direct/Reflecting cube speaker arrays blend direct with reflected sound to re-create a natural spaciousness--much like the sense of "air" and "room" you'd hear at a live concert. The arrays are engineered to let you experience rich sound almost anywhere in the room, not just in a single small "sweet spot."

The elements of this speaker system are engineered for space efficiency, so they don't intrude on your decor. The largest part of the system--the Acoustimass bass module--tucks neatly behind a couch or a curtain. You can mount the small cube speaker arrays tastefully on your walls or display them attractively on optional speaker stands (the UFS-20 universal floor stands).

The Acoustimass 15 speaker system is also designed to increase its capabilities as you upgrade your equipment. The Acoustimass 15 Series II 6.1 upgrade speaker kit lets you enjoy 6.1-channel surround sound (front left/center/right, rear left/center/right, and a .1 subwoofer channel) with a compatible audio/video receiver. Automatic protection circuitry prevents the system's drivers from being overdriven and provides increased reliability without interfering with your listening.

What's in the Box
Five cube speakers, one Acoustimass module, two 50-foot (15.2 m) rear speaker cables, a 20-foot (6.1 m) system input cable, three 20-foot (6.1 m) front speaker cables, rubber feet for the front center cube speaker array, a power cord, and a user's manual.

Product Description

1.0 out of 5 stars Buy anything but Bose, February 3, 2004
By A Customer
Bose is a testament to the power of advertising over product. In many ways it is a fascinating company whose products are based on late 1960's theories of audio using tweeters and woofers that Radio Shack parts outperform. This has been known for years in audio circles where Bose products are held in very low esteem. Check any issue of Stereophile, Absolute Sound, What HIFI or do a google search for Audioreview and epinions- you won't find Bose products held in any high regard. Yet uninformed consumers buy into it.

Bose has designed a system which probably costs them less than $400 in parts to build and retails them for several times that amount. Yet consumers still buy into this. Incredible.

Bose has made a name for itself by aiming its advertising towards consumers with little or no knowledge of audio equipment. It sells speakers and systems like this that are of poorer quality and absolutely worse performance than its competitors. I know, I owned several Bose products for years (901s, 301s and 201s) until I began to learn more about audio technology and quality. I was literally blown away by the quality of mid-fi Polk speakers when placed next to Bose products. Polk isn't "cutting edge" but builds a decently designed product for its price point.

Amazon carries Polk, JBL and Wharfedale ANY of whom offer decent mid-fi loudspeakers with substantially better engineered electronics and drivers. Most important of all these speakers sound much better than Bose for around $250 to $1000.

1.0 out of 5 stars not up to par, February 8, 2004
After purchasing a HDTV and a DVD player the next step was to get a speaker system and receiver. I had some limitations on the size of the speakers I could use, so naturally I thought of Bose. After using these speakers for about 20 days I had returned these speakers because of the lack of sound, what I mean by lack of sound is that I could hear humps from the speakers to the base module and distortion it got very annoying. One thing a person will notice very quickly about Bose is that there speakers don't need a lot of watts to get loud, (loud does not mean they are good speakers). I end up going with Round Sound (aka. Anthony Gallo Acoustics) A' Diva speakers much cleaner sound. If you are in the market for small speakers I would highly recommend giving Round Sound a look.

5.0 out of 5 stars A great speaker system, January 26, 2004
This system is an unbeliveable upgrade to your crappy home theatre system. Each of those little speakers can go up to 100 watts of power handling. Although small, they are probably louder than your bookshelf speaker, although these would not be nearly anything without the sub. The sub can handle very very high amounts of bass, this is the best sub you will see. This is the best speaker system of all time, this is half off right now, the price is normally double, don't miss your chance, I know I didn't.
