Nostalgic music fans that look back fondly on the radio and TV consoles of the '40s and '50s will delight in the Teac GF-480 stereo system, which combines modern components with a retro design. The system is housed in a classic wooden, four-legged cabinet with old-time speaker panels on the front. Above the panels, however, sit all the modern music complements, along with a couple that hark back a few decades. The device is built around a front-loading CD player for enjoying modern digital formats, along with a belt-drive three-speed turntable that lets you listen to your favorite Cream recordings on vinyl. Users can also revisit the era when pop singles ruled by speeding the turntable to 45 rpm.

Of course, any good classic console also needs an AM/FM radio, and the GF-480 complies here as well, with a reliable digital tuner. And should you tire of other formats, you can always pop in your '80s audiocassettes for a big-hair flashback. The full auto-stop deck also includes a soft-eject cassette door for smoother operation.

The most significant modern touch comes in the form of the 5-inch full-range speaker system, which fortunately sounds nothing like the scratchy speakers of yesteryear. Adding to the system's performance is a bass boost function that gives extra oomph to the lows. In addition, the GF-480 boasts rotary treble, bass, and balance controls for further audio customization. The variety of features team up to provide a solid, rich audio profile regardless of the listening source.

The console system measures 15.25 by 32.25 by 14 inches (W x H x D) and weighs 38.5 pounds.

My teenage son was thrilled with the sound quality of this console stereo with CD player and turntable. He had always wanted to hear real records and this provided him with an opportunity. Since receiving this console stereo, he has bought several vintage albums and has enjoyed listening to them over and over.

First off, I'll say that my stereo came in more of a cherry color--which actually worked out better for me, but may not for some. But this is exactly what I was looking for; it looks great in my living room and is loud enough to fill my one level house with music. And the price was fantastic. I couldn't be happier with this purchase.

This is an excellent product and it met my expectation in design and wood coloring. The system was actually a house warming gift for my daughter and husband; my daughter in turn giving the system to her husband for Father's Day.
