5.0 out of 5 stars Vass, October 20, 2003
By A Customer
Alright, I don't do reviews normally, but I will because I have a considerable amount of experience with this game. Short answer- I love it. Yes, it has its issues, but having played it alot and actually KNOWING some of those who complain, I have to say that most of them are whiners who complain if everything in the game isn't set up to enhance their particular character in a way that complements their play style perfectly.

First- The game is beautiful with the SI expansion, and I imagine that with Trials of Atlantis it will be even moreso. I've played tons of MMORPG's, and this is the only one that has made me say, "wow" over and over. I don't think you'll ever have anyone complaining about the eye candy. It's just that attractive.

The gameplay- Yes, it takes alot of time to "ding 50", which is the highest current level in the game. I have a level 50 Elf Mana Eldritch. He took some time to make. But he was worth it. I now am fooling around with a low level Lurikeen Nightshade (they can go invisible and stab badguys in the face...good fun) and he's been an absolute blast as well..TOTALLY DIFFERENT GAMEPLAY than my Eld. I haven't even tried the other 2 realms yet. This game can keep you entertained for a good long time if that's any indication.

And since I'm probably running out of room..Realm Vs. Realm combat. There are 3 sets of battlegrounds for newer players that start at 19 and end at 35..You can get to 19 fairly quickly, so you'll get a taste of realm vs realm early if you would like. The more badguys you kill, the more "realm points" you get. The more realm points you get, the more realm abilities (extras to beef your character up) you can buy. It's really pretty fun.

2 last points- Yes, you can play this game solo. But yes, it's better to find a group of people you can get alongw with and join a guild. I've played both ways, and joining my guild was the best thing I've done in the game as far as making it more enjoyable. They'll help you alot, you'll help them, and it just makes sense to be part of a team. Your guild can join alliances, which are less important, but do expand the pool of folks you'll have a relationship with.

Finally, do some research before you make your character!! Except for a few "re-specs" to re-specity your character's skills at levels 20 and 40 if you decide you want to concentrate on a different skill set, re-spec'ing is hard to come by, in the form of difficult to get quest items. So look around and find the best "template" for the type of character you want to be. There's hundreds out there to fit your play style.

In short, buy it, and see you on the Frontier.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent game!, October 11, 2003
By A Customer
I'm not much of a gamer. Sure, I played DOOM, DOOM II, Quake, Quake II, Quake III and Half Life some, but got tired of them all really quick. I have even played UO, and found the graphics and effects lacking, reguardless of the rest of it. If the interface isn't attractive to me, I won't play it very long.

I think this is an awesome game for hundreds of hours of play. It's fairly easy to play, be sure and read the docs. Also, the people online are so friendly and helpful. The guild system is awesome. Most guilds will help you out with levels, quests and other things you might need. You can not only be a fighter, mage, combo, etc.. but a crafter as well, be it alchemy, armor, weapons, or whatever. Money and drops are getting better with each new patch they introduce. You like PvP or RvR? It's got both, as well as PvE. It's becoming a well rounded game which, like most, has it's good and bad points.

5.0 out of 5 stars Dark Age of Camelot - The Races, August 24, 2005
By WelshMan1510 (Rochester Hills, MI USA) - See all my reviews
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
Dark Age of Camelot. The game features three different realms each with different races and classes to play. The three realms are Albion, Hibernia, and Midgard. Albion is mainly the defensive realm. Hibernia is the magical realm. Midgard is the offensive realm. These three meet up in the area called New Frontiers to duke it out with each other in order to control the castles of the land.
Albion consists of the remains of King Arthur's kingdom. The following races preside in Albion; Britons are the jack of all trades in this realm they can become every class and have balanced starting stats. Highlanders are the hardy human race of Albion and they are well suited to become many of the melee classes. Avalonians, these peoples are the most intelligent humans in Albion; they are well suited for the Mage/Elementalist classes due to their massive understanding of the arcane arts. Saracens are best suited to become rouges; due to their high dexterity they are very sneaky. Half-Ogres, these were implemented in an expansion to the game, their strength is higher than that of highlanders but they also have higher than normal intelligence (they are half-ogre half-Avalonian). Iconnu were also added in an expansion they have high dexterity and intelligence, making them well suited to become casters or rouges.
Hibernia is a land of lush green landscapes and powerful magic. The races of this land include; Celts, these are the jack of all trades in Hibernia, very akin to Britons. The Elf, elves are very skilled magicians this makes them wonderful spell casters. Firbolg's or firbys as they are also called are immensely strong and hardy making them wonderful choices for melee or healing classes. Lurkeens, keens are very small and have higher dexterity than that of even elves; this makes them the best choice for a stealther or archer in the realm. Sylvan were added to the game in an expansion, they are tree people (actually made of wood) and have a high affinity with nature along with good strength and constitution, making them good choices for healing or melee classes, you also see a lot of sylvan casters. Shar were added in an expansion to the game, they are the most evil race in Hibernia being that they are on bad terms with the other races of the land. They have a higher than normal strength and dexterity making them very good two weapon fighters.
Midgard, this realm is a land of high mountains, cold temperatures, and has very hardy races living within it. There are the small blue race of kobold, these quick little people vaguely resemble smurfs but are much more aggressive. They are suited very well for a defensive warrior or a stealthier. There are the monstrously strong trolls, who are made up of rocks these are the best suited for a tank class due to their abnormally high strength. There is the Norseman who is the standard human of Midgard they are well suited for all classes but don't excel in any one area. Dwarfs are very small bearded human like creatures they are simmi9lar to Norse but have a higher constitution and lower strength. There are the Valken who are distinctly dog like creatures; they are suited to become light tanks. The Frostalf are the class in Midgard that is best suited to become a caster.
These are the races of Dark Age of Camelot I hope that you find this review somewhat helpful in your decision to join a growing community. If you do end up joining our gaming community look me up sometime I'm on the Gareth server in the realm of Hibernia currently playing a Sylvan Valewalker.
