Editorial Reviews

Review
This record is composed of five chants where voices and percussion are used prominently. Floating in the air, the mind-healing power of this incredibly elusive music is hypnotic and hallucinative yet also highly engrossing. While your spirit's enrichment is guaranteed, "Voices of Buddhism" is so far from usual commonplaces of this area that you can't help feeling enshielded by the sound of these people's will, totally insusceptible to any kind of rage or violence. Beautiful prayers inswathed by self-command and sense of communion, a single soul manifestating itself through lots of throats. --Massimo Ricci, Touching Extremes

Product Description

5.0 out of 5 stars Fascinating Vocalizing, December 20, 2008
By Karl Bly (West Olive, MI USA) - See all my reviews
This is a fascinating edition of the Tibetan art of throat-singing. The tones created solely by the monks voices are soothing, almost other-worldly. The addition of the percussion adds greatly to the dramatic effect of this music. Strongly recommended for anyone interested in vocalizing (or for that matter, just interested in great music).

5.0 out of 5 stars A departure, a surprise!, December 2, 2008
By Rick David (Michigan, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
While Tibetan chanting is certainly not my normal cup of tea, I decided to listen to this recording because of the people who produced it. OgrePgress recordings have long been favorites of mine so I gave it a shot. What a terrific surprise! This is pure. This is enchanting. This is mesmerizing. This has sent me in a new and previously unknown musical direction. I'm obviously not an aficionado of Tibetan music or monks or chanting... nevertheless, this is a remarkable recording and I strongly recommend it to everyone, particularly those of us who had no clue! I know that Buddhism is also an important aspect of this music, but I feel it stands on its own. That it might also represent peace, non violence or spirituality is a happy side benefit. As always, the recording quality from the strangely named OgreOgress is superb!
