The best Land Before Time of them all, April 26, 2001
Journey into the Mists captivated both my children (3 and 5 years old), my wife and me. It is a story of courage, acceptance of others (hence the song "It takes all kinds"), and family ties. This movie is based upon the original Land Before Time video and is yet another sequel in this very popular series. In this story, Little Foot meets another small long neck named Allie. Allie is afraid of other dinosaurs because she has only been among other long necks. As part of a band of migrating long necks, she and her family come into the Great Valley while fleeing their former home, which has become a misty swamp that they now derisively call "The Land of Mists." After their arrival, Grandpa Longneck faill mysteriously ill and the migratory long necks identify his malady and proscribe a cure - a plant that only grows in the Land of Mists. Little Foot wants to go to find the mysterious plant, and he needs Allie's help. Allie refuses, however, to go unless Little Foot's friends do not come along. Herein lies the most positive part of this tale - Allie must get over her fear of other dinosaurs if she is to be of help to Little Foot and the others. She has to learn that accept and work with those who are different from herself. The story resolves, and the children learn valuable lessons. This story also includes a couple of very funny villians who are constantly telling each how worthless they are. These two cracked us up, but their constant bantering and bickering might be a little over the top for very small children. My two laughed and laughed for hours on end. We found that it was important to explain that this behavior is inappropriate and this is why it is funny. This was easily done, since the story shows that these two end up working against each other most of the time and not with each other. I highly recommend this video. There are some tender moments in this video and some great songs. I would however caution parents with very small children, since there are two villians who are not very nice to anyone. My three and five year old really liked it, but for children younger than that, I would exercise caution.

An underrated gem., June 26, 2005
A Kid's Review
This underrated sequel is obviously the best of the movies in the series. The trouble with this movie is that with all the "I HATE THIS MOVIE" hubbub, and the "I LOVE THE SIXTH MOVIE" hubbub, you'd think that this movie was a crime. The Land Before Time 6 was a failure because it tried to make the characters( especially Ducky and Littlefoot )more mature, and failed miserably. But, in this underrated classic, none of the characters are out of character, like in the 6th movie. Let me give you a summary about this movie. Okay, here goes nothin'...
Littlefoot, Cera, and the gang play some fun games. In the middle of playing "Hide and Seek", Littlefoot meets another young apatosaurus named Ali, who he befriends right away. When he and Ali come back, Ducky notices that there are "two Littlefoots". Ali is shy, so she and Littlefoot walk away. Cera and the others laugh and mock Ali. Then, one night, Grandpa feels very ill, and collapses. The Old One, oldest and wisest of the longnecks, says that the cure for his disease is found in The Land Of Mists( Ali's folks were forced out of their original homes ). Littlefoot and Ali decide to venture off to the Mists to help Grandpa. Next morning, Littlefoot's friends can't find him anywhere. Where did he go? They don't know, until they find out that he and Ali have ventured off to The Land Of Mists. They decide to go there and find Littlefoot. But two sinister predators, Ichy and Dil, are on the prowl...
An amazing piece of work. This movie marks the first( and hopefully not last )appearance of Ali the apatosaurus, Tickles the megazostrodon, Ichy the avimimus, and Dil the deinosuchus. It also has beautiful songs( "Grandma's Lullaby" and "It Takes All Sorts" are two tear-jerkers of songs )and a hilarious, yet somewhat inappropriate song( "Who Needs You?" is good, but at one point, one of them actually says,"I need you like a kick in the butt!" Is this language really necessary? ). The movie has beautiful animation, beautiful songs, a beautiful story, and beautiful characters. Go out and buy it today. It's worth it.
P.S., Spike says his first word in this movie! Want to know what it is? HINT: It's the name of the character who experiences a near-death scene.
P.P.S., Ozzy and Strut, the two struthiomimuses from the second movie, make a brief cameo! They are found in The Land Of Mists for a second. Look closely!
