5.0 out of 5 stars A must-have for contemplative Christians, January 10, 2005
By W. King (East Coast) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I heard this album in the '80s in college. I wore out the cassette and (sadly) never had it on vinyl. I stumbled across it just the other day, and am delighted to have it back in my house. It's been playing non-stop for a couple of weeks. We have a LOT of music in our house, but our 4 year old daughter is singing these songs already, in a way that she never did with other CDs!

The tunes are beautifully crafted, catchy, and thought-provoking. The perfect mix. The album is an especially good fit for those who have interest in the early church and orthodoxy in the broader sense -- whether Eastern, Roman Catholic or protestant in faith. But is great for anyone who loves beautiful music.

5.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and Classic!, September 5, 2004
By M. K. H. Jensen "mkhjensen" (Redmond, Washington United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
My search is over! I can finally replace my album! I, too, discovered Kemper Crabb in the 80's while in college in the Midwest. I wore my album out over the years, even before you could no longer find turn tables! My sister sang "Thigpen's Wedding Song" at my wedding 10 years ago and everyone was haunted by the melody and words. This music has classic roots that strike me today as much, if not more than it did 20 years ago. The concept of keeping a vigil over one's soul is even more powerful these days as I parent my two young girls. Every evening to be thankful that we are together and every morning to place the armor of our Lord on before we enter the realm! Keep the Vigil!

5.0 out of 5 stars My life favorite Christian album, October 16, 2003
By PaxMan (Eastern Shore of MD) - See all my reviews
I heard Kemper Crabb in the 80s at a small coffeehouse type gathering. Then when I married my wife (who took me to the coffehouse)I discovered this album. It is such a beautiful blend of scripture, song, and creativity. Some songs are just about mirth and joy, others more contemplative (They That Go Down to the Sea in Ships moves me nearly to tears ...) I was glad to find the re-release of the album on CD because we would surely have worn out the LP by know if we had played it as often as we would have liked ... this album is STILL the best.
