The versatile PVL552 VHS-C Camcorder has features that you wouldn't expect VHS camcorders to have. The PVL552 comes equipped with a 26:1 optical zoom. This powerful feature acts like a telescope to produce extraordinary close-up shots, superior in clarity to those provided by digital zoom. You can also choose between four zoom speeds, so you can go from a wide angle to full telephoto zoom in 2 to 16 seconds. It also has a 780x digital zoom which significantly increases the range of video capture when complemented with the optical zoom.

Saving battery power is essential for shooting, so during recording and playback, the PVL552 camcorder features a color viewfinder that can be used instead of the LCD.

To compensate for unintentional hand and camcorder movement when recording, the dual Digital Electronic Image Stabilization (D-EIS) feature aids in reducing those jitters. You can also use it in playback mode to help reduce jitter in previously recorded video. Playback can be done through a VCR or quick review can be accomplished using the 4 inch LCD screen.

Other features include color digital filter, digital fade, motion sensor, date and time, one-touch auto fade, and programmed recording.

This camcorder has a nice feel and is fairly intuitive-but you still might want to run through the manual just the same.

The additional Audio Input is a real bonus for recording depositions and presentations and was one of the main features we were looking for in a camcorder. The lens seems nice and sharp and battery life is just enough for those long sessions. The other cool feature is the built in LED light source. Its bright and comes in handy in dark corners and under objects that would be hard to get a larger light and camera into.
The overall feel is; for the price, size and functionality it's a nice in-between for production and just about disposable if you need to get into an environment that may risk damaging your equipment.
