5.0 out of 5 stars another great album, August 6, 2003
By George (Philadelphia, PA) - See all my reviews
the reason i gave this cd 5 stars is not because its got the best Scooter songs(its close), but because it works so well as an album. all the songs flow well into each other. and this is the first Scooter full length cd that i can listen to from begining to end without skipping over any songs. i first heard scooter when i was living in Greece in 1995. i heard "Friends". since then some of their songs have annoyed the hell out of me, but i've loved others. "Faster Harder Scooter" and "the logical song" have been my favorites..until now. "Maria" and "Weekend" are the strongest tracks here. absolutely incredible songs. along with "Pulstar" they make this one of best Scooter albums ever--definetly the best Scooter album in years. now if only America would catch on

5.0 out of 5 stars The US does not know what it is missing, April 13, 2003
I have been listening to scooter for years now.Their newest album is so fast paced, and teriffic it is truly a expeirience. I highly recomend checking it out especially if you have never heard scooter before. This is by far the best techno cd I have heard so far this year and in a long time. Respect to the man in the ice cream van....W00T

4.0 out of 5 stars Retrogressive modernity...how excellent., February 14, 2004
By The Blue Man (Oxford, OXON England) - See all my reviews
Scooter are a most surprising group. Although this album's title emphasises modern techno, in fact its inspiration is 1980s Euro. From Vangelis' "Pulstar", to Valerie Dore's "The Night", to "Weekend" (which is just as reminiscent of the genre, and is also the name of a different Euro song by Atrium), Scooter most touchingly bring together 1980s music with a techno beat. When one also considers the Abba and Supertramp songs, one has an incredibly retrogressive concept.

The result is frequently sublime. It suffers from two excesses which are immediately apparent: the distracting cacophony of H.P. Baxxter's shouted exhortations, and some almost caricatured techno instrumental values which are out of place on a studio album. It is easy at first to attach too much importance to these; however, on further listening the overall brilliance of the compositions, and the beauty (not to mention audacity) of such a recording, allows one to put up with even these.

"Weekend" is probably the best song on this release (with a very good remix attached). However, there are numerous sonic surprises awaiting the listener, and each of the fifteen songs has something of worth on an album which occupies well over an hour.

One final observation. Although some groups who were formed during the 1980s, such as Modern Talking, still exist, their respective roots today (often influenced by soul) are - paradoxically - far more modern than Scooter. This German group is nothing short of compelling.
