A refreshing new sound for The Cardigans..., May 13, 2003
By A Customer
The Cardigans have evolved! At first, I didn't know how to react to this new, sad, emotianal, organic change to the band, but after listening to the album through I discovered that this album is a gem...I love it even more than Gran Turismo! With Gran Turismo the listener was wisked through an electronic, almost tense ride, that really works out well, but definetly goes into the opposite direction that this new album goes in. This album is beautiful...filled with achingly lush songs that Nina Persson longingly sings. Her voice is incredibly angelic and almost delicate sounding at times. Some standout songs include Communication, which is one of the most emotianal songs on the album. Please Sister, which has a more upbeat melody to it. Feathers and Down, which might just bring a tear to your eye. Those are my favorite 3 on the cd! This cd has a more alternative, sad, mellow sound to it than it's predecessor GRAN TURISMO, but to me, it's 100% better! I think the reviews that were negative were basically lashing out because of this albums alternative switch over...Fans of Gran Turismo may not like this album, even though I loved Gran Turismo and love this one even more...but, those of you expecting electronic soundscapes that marveled us all in Gran Turismo, be cautious with this one!! This is an absolutly perfect and flawless album...Fans of Mazzy Star, Miranda Lee Richards, Holly McNarland, Trespassers William and other alternative gals will probably love this cd...Also, you might want to check out Nina Perssons other band A CAMP, which has an album quite similiar to this one...I love this cd!!!

A different Context, July 6, 2003
I am familiar with the Cardigans discography and I can agree that if you expect the sexy crooning from Nina Persson and the tight poppy songs we heard on First Band on the Moon and Life you will be disappointed. This is a very different album from their past works. It is down beat and sad, slow and purposeful. It gets slick at times, and suffers from an absence of a real upbeat song. This might be enough to drag down other albums, but one thing this album has is heart. The Cardigans take a sadder and more serious tone on Daylight. Persson's voice and lyrics are achingly beautiful and she sings with such real pain and emotion on "For What it's Worth" and "And Then You Kissed Me." It's as though we can actually feel her pain and frustration. This dark frustration is especially clear on Please Sister when she sings "So if it's true that love will never die/then why do the lovers work so hard to stay alive." At times this album can be heartbreakingly sad; there is a heaviness and pessimism that surrounds the album. I can only wonder what events sparked the Cardigans to make an album like this with no clear single or pop accessible track. The songs are not as strong or clever as they have been in the past, and it is certainly not a fun album, but there is passion and depth that is not found in the rest of the Cardigans discography. Listen to this with a good pair of headphones on. If you are open to it, it will blow you away.

Not bad at all!, June 3, 2003
By A Customer
I kept on reading how this album is their worst effort and how it's boring. Well, when I read that it was boring I knew I would probably enjoy it and guess what!? I DID! And being sort of a fan of their music in the past particularly such as their album Gran Turismo, I could say that this last one is their best yet and they have evolved with their sound. There's nothing wrong with that! Also I read how they sound so americanized *rolls eyes* and jewel-like and man if only Jewel can sound this good! The female singer sounds better than ever as a vocalist. Highlights in my opinion are communication, good horse, couldn't care less, and then you kissed me, live and learn, and if there is a chance. Do yourself a favor, if you are a cardigans fan LISTEN to it and do your best to accept their new sound AND if you like just great music CHECK THIS ONE OUT!
