Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Huun-Huur-Tu – "sun propeller" – is a Tuvan expression describing the first of the rising sun's rays as they shoot up from behind the mountains down, down there, where the steppe and the mountains meet with the sky.

Limitless steppes, cloud-clad mountains, ancient sun, and thousands and thousands of years of history of nomadic horsemen– these are Tuva. The sounds of the steppe, the cries of the animals, the songs of the birds, the chanting of the spirits – these are Huun-Huur-Tu.

In their latest release, Huun-Huur-Tu Live 1 and Live2, four musicians using traditional Tuvan overtone singing and traditional instruments bring to us the ancient voices of the past.

Recorded live in Russia (April, 2001), Huun-Huur-Tu Live1 and Live 2 capture the magic of the band’s live sound while featuring the most popular songs from the band’s previous studio albums.

5.0 out of 5 stars Live 2, June 8, 2006
A Kid's Review
I love listening to it. I think that throat singing is fantastic. I can't throat sing so I usually sing the high-pitched sound. Eki Attar is my favorite song.

4.0 out of 5 stars The 2nd half, April 28, 2003

(TOP 500 REVIEWER)
Being more-or-less the equal of Live 1 in terms of great performances and songs, and being that both were recorded on the same day (or are maybe even 2 halves of the same concert), I feel that Live 1 and Live 2 should be bought together. I mean, if I were at a concert whose first half was as good as Live 1, I wouldn't have left early and missed the 2nd half of the performance.

My review may have some redundancy with my review for Live 1, but I can't help it. Track #1 on this disc has another stunning solo vocal. With track #5, Huun Huur Tu again display that they are some of the best jews-harp players in the entire world. The first half (mainly just jews-harp) of this song is incredible, and once it morphs into the vocal-and-instruments song it remains excellent. #8 is sort of an atmospheric track, but it's all acoustic and never falls into any of the New Agey cliches that so frequently happen during things where the word "atmospheric" is used as a description.

Missing Huun Huur Tu in concert near me earlier this year was a disappointment, but getting this and Live 1 a month or so ago have done alot to ease the pain!

5.0 out of 5 stars Outstanding live recording, November 10, 2006
As a musician I am extremely impressed by the quality of this recording. Were it not for the clapping at the end of the performances, the listener would be unaware this was not a studio recording because the performances are incredibly flawless. In particular the first track on CD2 is an unbelievably moving acapella performance that is simply perfect.

I recommend purchasing this disc with the companion CD #1 to get a rounded view of Tuvaan music. The discs also come with some intere sting.exe music video footage for your PC.
