Editorial Reviews

Product Description
Written and Directed by Harry Dodge (Cecil B. Demented) and Silas Howard (of the punk band Tribe 8) with additional dialogue by Stanya Kahn. Shy is a handsome small-town loner who dumps his diner job and thumbs to San Francisco in pursuit of a life of petty crime. Along the way, Shy stumbles into the off-kilter Valentine, who is on a quest to locate his birthmother. An unexpected and magical friendship sparks as they steal and grift their way towards understanding themselves and the crazy world around them. "The humanity of the characters shines!" – New York Times "Impressive!" – LA Weekly

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Indie Films in Years!, June 7, 2004
By A Customer
This film is a remarkable achievement for the writers, directors and fine cast. Besides being extremely well done, this film manages to deal with several topics with eloquence, including mental illness and transgendered lifestyles. All of the actors do an excellent job, particular Silas Howard and Harry Dodge. I would definitely recommend this film and hope to see more of this great talent in the future.

5.0 out of 5 stars a purity in this film that i dont see in alot of others, March 30, 2004
By A Customer
i dont know what it is about this movie. its got this purity about it. its not all gukked up with hollywood, its beautiful.
"your beautiful. me and you were the same, were the same.."-valentine

the story of 2 guys who fall into a friendship during difficult parts of their lives. one "valentine" (harry dodge) trying to find his birth mother with nothing more to go by than a last name and a phone book and alot going on in his head. and a drifter "shy"(silas howard) who refuses any connections to others as a way of remaining detached. and valentines girlfriend "billie" (stanya kahn) whos just trying to keep things together. valentine and shy decide that they wanna be bank robbers.

this is the kind of movie that makes people love independant film. its what is so special about them. this is the reason people get the sundance channel. its the reason i love dodge.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great, July 15, 2006
By C. Link (Boston, CA, USA) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
A classic of lesbian / butch / FTM film.
Harry Dodge shines as Val, and Stanya Kahn, Dodge's real-life partner, shines as Billie, Val's partner in the movie.
Silas Howard (previously of the band Tribe 8) plays Shy, who travels from her hometown to San Francisco looking for something. She and Val become friends. The movie touches on their pasts, who they love, friendship, having nothing, having everything because you have someone, mental health issues, relationships / loyalty / love.
Kudos to the filmmakers for overcoming obstacles and making a work of art that represents those who are historically not represented. For those interested, filmmaker Silas Howard is currently working on a film, "Exactly Like You", about musician Billy Tipton, who lived his life as a man though born a woman.
