Take This to Your Grave is Fall Out Boy's debut full-length CD. Featuring 12 tracks, it tells the tales of the obstacles that come with true friendships and the trials and tribulations of growing up. Drawing influences from a healthy wealth of rock, pop, and hardcore, Fall Out Boy has constructed a distinctive sound of unforgettable melodies, clever lyrics, and multifaceted guitar hooks. 5.0 out of 5 stars The Album You've Been Looking For..., August 26, 2003
I've never written a review for Amazon, but I HAD to recommend this album...

Some things that stand out about Fall Out Boy are:

1. The singer has a very unique voice(a good thing, especially in this genre), and can actually sing, and his voice isn't whiny which is pretty common of the lead singers of groups like this.

2. The music is complex when it needs to be, complements the singing and tunes perfectly...when I like a song, usually it's the singing or the actual music that stands out more than the other, but on "Take This to Your Grave" they meld and neither takes precedent over the other, they just work.

3. The melodies are amazing. About half of the songs have incredible melodies that you've never heard anything close to before, but they don't overuse through the duration of the song(One example being Jason Mraz' "The Remedy", good song but he kills it because he sings that chorus like 15 times).

4. It's really really rare for a CD to have more than maybe 2-3 good songs if you're lucky, but this CD has at LEAST 6 excellent songs, which, most importantly, all sound different from each other.

5. Their music has broad appeal, which is getting harder and harder to do these days, you don't have to be a fan of rock or pop-punk to enjoy this album.

My Favorite Tracks:

1- Tell that Mick He Just Made My List of Things To Do Today
3- Grand Theft Autumn
7- Chicago Is So 2 Years Ago
9- Grenade Jumper
10- Calm Before the Storm
12- The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes

4.0 out of 5 stars The Patron Saint of Pop-Punk, January 13, 2005
Yes, pop-punk does suck. Yes, I have had just as many dreams of the likes of Good Charlotte and Simple Plan dying in a horrible plane crash. Regardless, I somehow still absolutely love this album.

It has everything that most pop-punk bands are missing: clever lyrics, driving rhythm, um... musical talent? Oh yeah, they have the best track titles of any band in recent memory.

The members of Fall Out Boy were all part of the Chicago hardcore scene but one day they got together a decided to write a pop album. Their hardcore sensibilities are obvious in most tracks, even though on the surface they seem harmless enough. Explosive drumming, check. Huge riffs, check. Fall Out Boy has successfully stolen these elements from the scene that raised them and made the only album you and your little sister can enjoy together.

Track-by-track

1. Tell That Mick He Just Made My List of Things to do Today-3/5- A good song. Nothing too new. It's great when compared to songs by FOB's contemporaries like "Ocean Avenue" or "Lifestyles of the Rich and Famous" or something, it just isn't a stand out track for FOB.

2. Dead On Arrival-4/5- This is a good song, the four is mostly because i feel like an idiot singing along to "This is side one, flip, me over, I know I'm not your favorite record"

3. Grand Theft Autumn/Where is Your Boy -5/5- Definitely one of the best songs on the album. It was the only song that I loved from the beginning. Most of them took a few listens to really get into.

4. Saturday - 5/5- Another really good track. The chorus is super-catchy.

5. Homesick at Space Camp-5/5- Another really catchy one. It could have been a hit if Fueled by Ramen had sold their souls to Clear Channel.

6. Sending Postcards from a Plane Crash (Wish You Were Here)- 4/5- Good song, but nothing about it makes it any better than anything else they've done. I like it, it just doesn't stand out.

7. Chicago is so Two Years Ago - 5/5- Unlike the people who say this is their favorite track and don't know why, I know exactly why: guest vocals from Justin Pierre of Motion City Soundtrack, and everything he touches turns to gold.

8. The Pros and Cons of Breathing -5/5- This song was stuck in my head for like a week, but I didn't really mind.

9. Grenade Jumper-4/5- Presumably this song is about a friend who supported them? I dunno, its a good song but I don't love it like FOB apparently loves the mysterious "Chris"

10. Calm Before the Storm- 5/5- This song just rocks. I like the lyrics, I like the melody, I like it all.

11. Reinventing the Wheel to Run Myself Over-5/5- Best.Song.Title.Ever. Aside from that its a straight forward punk song with pop-sensibilities and that everpresent feeling that someone sold you an emo album without telling you.

12. The Patron Saint of Liars and Fakes-5/5- This song has a great chorus with awesome breakdowns.

5.0 out of 5 stars As the 203rd Reviewer of this Album..., August 11, 2006

I selfishly pride myself on liking bands no one has heard of and/or bands that aren't on the radio, but these stupid guys made me like a "cool" band. If you've made it this far you know what type of band you are getting yourself into, but unlike most bands that pop up for a year then disappear, these guys have put out good cds back to back. Yes buy this CD you won't be disappointed. The lyrics are great and the music even better. Seriously, I hate to have to write a review like that about a band that is on the radio all the time, but these guys are solid.
