Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

This wireless headphone system was designed to connect with your TV or stereo system. The 900 MHz wireless system -- similar technology as the 900 MHz cordless phones -- allows you to move around the room without that pesky cord draping behind. It is easy to connect to TV, VCR, DVD or audio systems with the supplied connecting cord and plug adaptor. This system includes both transmitter and headphones.

The high power radio frequency (RF) transmitter provides excellent sound quality and transmission range, especially when compared to earlier wireless systems. The MDR-RF945RKs have a transmission range of 150 feet. The headband is self-adjusting and sports two, snug-fitting bands. The headphones come with a rechargeable Ni-Cad battery. The system sports an automatic headphone battery charge system and will recharge the headphone's Ni-Cad battery whenever they are set in the transmitter. You can expect an impressive twenty hours of use from a fully charged battery.

The headphones are lightweight and comfortable, delivering quality sound. Sony has installed several technical features in the headphones to ensure a quality listening experience. There are three transmission channels to assist in optimal reception. You can manually choose the best channel on the headphones, or choose the auto-select option and the headphones will scan for the best signal. The thirty millimeter drive units deliver deep bass, low distortion and a wide frequency response range (20 - 20,000 Hz). Ferrite magnets give the headphones good energy at a minimal size and weight. The PET diaphragms offer low distortion and resists bending and flexing. The open-air, supra-aural design is comfortable and allows you to keep in touch with ambient sounds. With the mute button you can quickly shut off the music or TV noise.

The transmitter's inputs, along with the supplied connecting cord, make it easy to connect your audio or TV component. There is even a supplied UniMatch plug to ensure compatibility. With this adaptor, you can connect the transmitter to various sound sources. These plugs accommodate both the phone jack found on high fidelity components or the mini-jack found on video components. A single volume control is found on the right earpiece for simple volume adjustments. Finally, there is an automatic power switch on both the headphones and transmitter to help conserve battery and equipment life. (The unit turns back on when the transmitter detects a signal, while the headphones turn on when they sense their placement on your head.) The headphones weigh 8.2 ounces and are a modern silver color.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Sound, Decent Range, Ergnomics questionable., July 3, 2003
By "austin8666" (Carlisle, OH United States) - See all my reviews
The sound produced by these speakers are great, and compared with similar priced headphoens it equals or beats the competition. One of the biggest perks of this headset is the auto-tuning function which keeps the headsets tuned in so you don't have to keep tuning and retuning the headsets. I primarly use them for watching TV at night so as to not disturb the rest of the household. If this is what you'll be using them for, then they are suburb. If you plan on walking around the house, expect some intermitent inclarity static. They are quite bulky, and wearing them too far back on your head will eventually hurt your scalpe and ears, but when worn right they are extremely comfortable. As for battery life, the rechargeably battery makes it much more conveniant as you never have to find and replace batteries. The batteries last well over 8 hours of usage at a time, so don't expect these headsets to die on you. Overall I can recommend this product to anyone looking for a a headset in the sub $... range. The MDR-RF945RK can also be found for under $... elsewhere.

2.0 out of 5 stars Overpriced and noisy, April 26, 2004
By Abel Robineau "Professional Photographer" (Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Too noisy to watch DVDs or listening to music, lot of static, mostly if you don't stand still like a statue. Very disappointing from Sony. Buy Koss, Sennheiser or Bose. Oh and the connection between the base and the headphones is crap.

3.0 out of 5 stars Decent Headphones, need some adjustments, January 26, 2004
By Travis (Hillsboro, OR USA) - See all my reviews
I bought these a couple of months ago and use them to watch TV while others in the house are asleep. They work very well, over a pretty decent distance, and are very comfortable. At first I was annoyed with how noisy they were, (compared with IR headphones, there's a lot of noise), but I found that if I crank the tuner to a really high volume (25 out of 30) and then adjust the headphone audio lower, the noise is reduced such that I really don't notice it.
