Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The ultra-lightweight (0.74 ounces) ECM-Z60 microphone from Sony is perfect for recording meetings, lectures, presentations, conferences, and more. An electret condenser microphone, the ECM-Z60 has a slim profile and fits easily onto any available surface. The foldable microphone stand helps you to optimally position the microphone, while its super uni-directional polar pattern is ideal for recording sound sources at a distance.

The phase-tube design of the ECM-Z60 helps prevent electrical noise interference, while a -36db (+/- 3.5dB) sensitivity helps capture even quiet sound sources. A 100 - 10,000 Hz frequency response captures the most important sounds for speech, while an effective output level of approximately -46.5 (+/- 3dbm) helps ensure the quality of your recordings. The ECM-Z60 has a 65 dB dynamic range and an output impedance of 2.8 kOhms.

The mini plug is gold plated for maximum conductivity, while its L-shape helps ensure that it doesn't come disconnected while in use. The 3.2-foot long cord lets you place the microphone a reasonable distance from your recording device, while the battery box is small and unobtrusive. The two-way power supply utilizes either plug-in power (with certain Sony or AIWA recorders) or Sony's CR2025 battery (supplied). The ECM-Z60 also comes backed with a 90-day parts and labor warranty.

Product Description

ECM-Z60 is the clear choice for recording lectures, speeches, seminars, and other situations where the speaker is distant from your recording position. Super uni-directional characteristic focuses on sound directly in front of the microphone, while sharply reducing the pickup of side and rear sounds. The microphone uses phase-tube technique to avoid electrical noise interference. It provides for two-way power capability (plug-in or battery with CR2025 x 1). Foldable mic stand allows for easy carrying and set-up.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent product - easy to use, April 10, 2007
By JRTprints (Wiltshire, United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
I've used this microphone with an Olympus DM-20 digital voice recorder in university lecturers with no problems at all. The recording quality is far superior to the microphone included with the Olympus voice recorder. Picks up the lecturer's voice clearly from the middle of the classroom, and even if they wander around. Obviously, if your lecturer is softly spoken it's best to record from the front, but no problem with normal speech volume levels.

Easy to use - just plug it in and press record. Highly recommended product.

1.0 out of 5 stars You get what you pay for with audio equipment, September 7, 2005

The marketing of this mic suggests that it will pick up sounds across the room in a lecture hall. I bought it hoping that it would work for just that in my college classes. It is pathetic. Sitting on my desk about two feet from my mouth, it barely picks up the sound of my voice. I've had bad experiences with cheap mics in the sub $100 price range. So I'm paying more this time around with the Sony ECM MS957. I would reccomend not buying this one.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Mic!, September 17, 2007
I'm a court stenographer and I use this microphone EVERY single day with my Olympus DS-4000 digital voice recorder as my backup recording. The only problems I've had is the wire is starting to fray (probably just from my winding/unwinding the cord every day). The audio quality has been great! Even when I am at large conference tables or in a courtroom, it picks up pretty far (obviously the closer it is to the source, the better the quality, though), but I've been pretty happy with this mic.

The person who wrote in about it not even picking up his own voice, try checking the recording feature on your source device -- I had my Olympus set on "dictation mode" and it DOES NOT pick up anything unless you're speaking directly into the mic. Just an idea...
