Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description

The MDR-W25G headphones fit inside the ear for jostle-free listening. Created to match the Sony Sports Walkman line, these headphones are built to meet the demands of the active listener. Besides the inherent snug fit of in-the-ear headphones, the MDR-W25Gs are also held in place with a slim, over-the-head headband. They are extremely lightweight and will provide hours of comfortable listening. These headphones are also water-resistant, taking away an easy excuse for many runners, walkers and bikers. Sony has also installed a moisture guard mechanism which pulls sweat away from the ear canal, providing a longer-lasting fit, even while pedaling or running in a warm gym.

Sony uses 16 mm driver units in these headphones. While lightweight and small enough to fit inside the ear, they also deliver a good bass sound and wide frequency range (down to 10 Hz.) Neodymium magnets give the headphones maximum energy at a minimal size and weight. Sony Acoustic Twin Turbo Circuitry will deliver powerful bass sound for high efficiency as you work towards fitness. The open-air design allows for ambient noise to enter the ear, a safe feature for exercisers as you will hear car horns, passing bikers and dog barks. The cord is one meter long (3.3 feet) and the nickel-plated mini-plug offers crisp sound delivery. If you are looking for a quality-sounding, water-resistant, lightweight and stable pair of headphones, these MDR-W25G headphones should fit the bill.

4.0 out of 5 stars Quality headphones, July 17, 2005
Initially, I thought these headphones were not going to be very good. I mainly wanted to purchase a set of headphones so that I can jog/exercise in comfort. My ears are not huge, so I avoided any of the plugs/phones that looked bigger than what could fit inside my ears.

I have a set of Sony MDR EX-51 headphones, and both headphones here have qualities and usage that I like about them.

The MDR-W25G S2 Sport headphone does it's job. The sound quality does not have the thumping bass that the MDR EX-51 has (due to it's sound enclosure ear-plugs), but the fidelity/quality of the sound is much more crisp and clear. Due to the 16mm driver (versus 9mm from MDR EX-51), the sound output is much higher which in return gives the listener an enjoyable listening environment.

Now, unless you are not wearing a helmet while you are biking, it's a joke to use these for any biking activities. The way the ear-piece is designed, you can't just swivel the head set to the back of your head whatever. I like to see how comfortable anyone tries to wear this headphone underneath their helmet.

I bounced around with these while jogging and they actually work. Very light and they do stay on your head fairly well, just make sure that you place the headset angeled a bit forward towards your forehead direction. They are light enough that I don't really feel bothered by them. The cord is just right for my little MP3 player that I attach to my armband. Unlike the MDR EX-51 earbuds, these headphones will not block outside noise and you will not hear yourself "breathing" while you jog.

At work, I think I would prefer the MDR EX-51, because it gives me more bass and they are more comfortable without wearing something over your head. The MDR EX-51 has a very long cord, and because of that I have almost damaged it before buying the MDR-W25G S2 Sports headphones.

Now I have to figure out what headphones will work best while I'm bike riding.

3.0 out of 5 stars These get the job done headphones, March 9, 2007

These headphones keep the sweat out better than other similar athletic headphones. These are very affordable and the sound is OK, not great. Someone else mentioned that they are not durable and I support that. I have gone through 4 of these in a year. They tend to break at the joint. Before you buy check out Sennheiser PMX 70 Sport Earphones. I just bought these and I admit they are more expensive, but these have a single cord so the cord does not become twisted and they are made of a firm but flexable material. I have only run with them 2x they are comfortable although they do look a but weird.

3.0 out of 5 stars Not what the description is at all....., February 19, 2007
The description of these is wrong, wrong, wrong. the frequency response is only 20-20,000 hz, not 10- 20,000 hz. and the sensitivity is only 104 db not 108 db like the description also says. I have 3 different pair of in-ear headphones and I have tested them all to the same song and the same mp3 player and all of mine are the same. I have the following models: mdr-w08, mdr-w014 ?, and my new ones mdr-w25g. All of them are the same so don't spend the extra money like I did. They work great and are great but if you are expecting a better sound and response you will not get this from these compared to other sony in-ear headphones. I am a total Sony headphone geek, I love the quality. Just don't buy the most expensive as most ofthem are the same. Good luck.
