Product Description

Amazon.com Review

While this may look like a long version of your mother's toaster, it's far from it. Cuisinart has combined classic styling with modern electronic technology to produce this handsome, chrome-plated toaster with powerful performance. The two toaster slots are wide enough to accommodate thick bagel halves or rustic bread slices and long enough for two slices of bread each; when they're done, they pop up close to the surface for easy removal. The browning control is simple and easy to use, and the well-spaced heating elements make for even browning overall. Added features include a defrost control for frozen items such as toaster pastries or waffles, and the reheat cycle will come handy in case your toast gets done before your eggs are scrambled. A crumb removal tray ensures easy cleanup--just slide out and dump. Keep the shiny metal surface glowing with the wipe of a damp cloth, and avoid abrasive powder cleaners or metal scrub pads. The handy cord-storage area underneath the toaster keeps your counter looking neat, because, of course, you're going to want to show this one off. The toaster measures 7-1/4 by 17 by 8 inches and carries a 3-year limited warranty. --Marianne Painter

2.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!, September 27, 2003
By A Customer
I paid what I consider quite a bit of money just for a toaster, but I thought Cuisinart would make it worth my money. I was lulled into a false sense of security for the first two weeks, as that produced pretty decent toast. But after 2 weeks, it started to barely toast the middle of the bread, and to burn the crusts. I tried multiple settings but nothing helped. The instructions said that users might have to change the settings with each piece of bread because of variations in moisture and such. Good heavens, who can make such an assessment at 7 AM? The feature I really liked was the long horizontal slot that could hold a slice of bread machine bread. They don't fit in most toasters, so that was what convinced me to return this model for an identical one. But alas, the same thing happened, and now I will be returning the second one as well. Now if you love burnt crusts, this the machine for you!

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice exterior, bad innards!, August 30, 2003
By B. W. Bordelon "Bryan" (Kenner, Louisiana United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
I stupidly ignored a friends advice who owned one, and purchased because of the design. It rarely toasted evenly (bread/waffles) nor did it handle bagels well. Now after 3 years, it is dead.
So for 80 bucks you get poor performance, good looks, and a warranty which expires before it does. Nice job Cuisinart! You won't fool me with ANY of your other products.

2.0 out of 5 stars Get a different toaster, September 3, 2004
By The "Beepster" (Madison, WI, USA) - See all my reviews
September 2004: I had one of these too....bought it on sale and thought it looked nice and was a Cruisinart so expected it to be great. It worked for a few months and then began to toast things very unevenly....not all the elements were working. It finally died after 2 years. I reviewed lots of toasters on-line and finally bought the KitchenAid Pro Line toaster. It is terrific. Yes, it cost three times what the average high-end "good" toaster costs but it is a solid piece of equipment, works flawlessly, and has some great features, such as a manual lift so the toast stays in the toaster and warm until you're ready for it. It has wide enough slots for bagels and English muffins. So, stop buying cheap (in quality) toasters every 2-3 years and spend the bucks to buy a really good machine. By the way, speaking of KitchenAid quality, my stand mixer is still going strong after 25 years...

Update October 10, 2006: See the KitchenAid Pro Line 4 slice toaster for a full updated review....but in a nutshell, the Pro Line toaster isn't up to the same KitchenAid quality.....it worked well for acouple of months but then half the elements died and it was recalled by the company to boot for faulty wiring....it's replacemnent (about 2 years old) works OK but is nothing special in the toasting department (although it does look nice and the wide slots are good).....I'm listing the Pro Line as adequate (3 stars) but not worth the money....so skip the Pro Line toaster, unless you like form over function. By the way, the old KitchenAid mixer continues to hum along as flawlessly as ever.....purchased in 1979.

This Cuisinart toaster is still not worth the money either.....Geez, there must be one good toaster out there somewhere......

4.0 out of 5 stars Worked for many years until recently
Never had the problems others had with uneven toasting. My one beef was always the way the switch to turn on the second slot was oriented. Read more
