1.0 out of 5 stars CAUTION!!!!!!, August 5, 2004
Do NOT buy this Cable if you're planning to buy a new click wheel ipod, they're not compatible, (use M9688LL/A cable kit instead).

5.0 out of 5 stars What they DON'T tell you about this item, December 1, 2003
By The Patriot "shadow_ace_750" (San Antonio TX) - See all my reviews

This is a handy item for a Windows user. I happen to have Firewire native on everything except my Tablet (a PC Card there). Transfer rates were not anywhere close to the max 400 speed on the Tablet, for whatever reason, which I believe is because it's an unpowered port. However, this cable makes all the difference.

But people are wondering why does it need 2 ends, and what do you do with the Firewire end?

You plug it into the power adapter and into the wall. The USB port doesn't supply the power the iPod needs.

5.0 out of 5 stars APPLE iPod Dual Retractable USB + FIREWIRE 1394 Y Cable, June 1, 2004
By Reginald H. Henderson (Rochester, NY United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
(The following review was moved to the wrong product, the correct product is in my review title, RH 2/3/2009) I get an IPod from someone. It's cable doesn't fit my USB port on my PC. I found out it came with a fire-wire cable. I searched for fire-wire to USB cable changer, but I found they don't exist. I saw this (Apple iPod Dock Connector-to-FireWire-and-USB 2.0 Cable), but I thought you had to have an I-Pod Dock and I didn't know what it was. Well, the Dock Connector refers to the port on the bottom of all I-Pods. You plug the "dock" connector to the bottom of your I-Pod (it's dock), and now you can plug the USB cable to your PC's USB port, whether you have 1.0 or 2.0 (2.0 is just faster). Also, now you take the extra fire-wire cable and plug it to your charger, so you can keep charging while your using your I-Pod on your PC. The alternative is buying a fire wire card and installing it in your PC, a little more expensive, a litte more work.

5.0 out of 5 stars I didn't get a knockoff.
I got an authentic Apple cable. It even came with the little plastic Apple standard plug covers. The merchant was toplinesales123. Oh, and it was only $8.00, instead of the $19. Read more

I just received this Apple knockoff from SF Planet. The advertisement was for an Apple data cable not an Apple compatible data cable. This is a false advertisement and a scam!!

I wanted an original apple usb cord for my iPod, and the description said this is, but it isn't. So if you're like me and you want the original, don't buy this one.
