Product Description

From the Manufacturer
Lights! Camera! Action! Welcome to the world of Viewtiful Joe! An innovative, super-hero, action game that mixes funky, cartoon-style visuals with classic, side-scrolling, game play and introduces the world's quirkiest, million-dollar, action hero…Joe!

Viewtiful Joe is a super hero with all the confidence, punch, and style of a million-dollar action-hero caught in the world of a Hollywood movie. It begins as Joe and his girlfriend, Sylvia, are at the movies watching his favorite superhero, Captain Blue. Somehow Sylvia is warped into the motion picture realm and it is up to Joe to fight the on-screen crime and rescue her. In the effort of saving his damsel in distress, Joe becomes more than just any ordinary dude. He gains new powers to perform special visual techniques that can be utilized to affect time and initiate a variety of devastating combos on foes. Joe's special powers can also be used to solve various inventive puzzles.

Progress through various quasi 2D/3D cel-shaded environments, implementing Joe's visual effect abilities to bash enemies with beautiful style. It is up to you to activate the correct view mode, such as "slow," a technique for instantaneously slowing down the action to inflict damage reminiscent of today's films, or "mach speed" to destroy enemies using a lighting-fast approach. The blend of a true comic book look and innovative stylized action sets Viewtiful Joe apart.

Features

  • Innovative platform game action
  • Vividly comic and funky cartoon-style visuals
  • Customize visual effects by executing stylish and visionary moves while playing:
    • Slow down: "Slow Power" inflicts detailed attacks and moves
    • Speed up: "Mach Speed" provides lighting speed fists of fury
    • Zoom: enhance the fighting experience by getting up close and person to the action

Viewtiful Joe redefines action games by mixing innovative "viewpoint" fighting into an amazing stunt-filled, action-movie universe!

Product Description
Fighting action game from Capcom Studio 4's Atsushi Inaba. Joe was just your average, well, Joe until he was transported into his favorite action movie. In his new environment, Joe discovers he has all the abilities of Hollywood action-hero. Using new cel-shading techniques, VJ boasts a unique visual style that blends colorful 3D environments with a twisted take on traditional 2D gameplay. Joe's power stems from skillful martial arts attacks, high-flying acrobatics, and time-bending special effects. Players can slow down or speed up time when attacking/ dodging enemies, as well as zoom in on the action to execute different attacks.

5.0 out of 5 stars great sidescrolling game, September 12, 2004
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
this is one of the most original ways to take a side scrolling game into the 3-d dominated game industry. the game takes a normal joe who's obsessed with movies and sucks him into the movie where he recieves the powers of his favorite super hero captain blue where you can slow things down and speed things up. it is really interesting how objects react such as the water levels rise and fall and propellers spin slower and faster so that a helicopter may fall out of the sky. it's a little tricky to learn these techniques at first, but they are alot of fun to use. they have an adult and a kids version and you may want to use the kids version at first to get the hang of it.

the game is difficult on adult. the levels obviously get progressively more difficult which requires you to master to superhero abilities. the bosses are interesting as well, starting of with a talking vampire bat, a rhyno, and a missile shooting shark. the game is done completely as if the pages of a comic book could move. i love cell shaded games, but this might be a downfall if you don't like such games. i have to say this is one of the best sidescrolling games released since the old castlevania and mario brothers games.

4.0 out of 5 stars Cool, May 24, 2003
By A Customer
I recently had a chance to play Viewtiful Joe for the Nintendo GameCube, and I must say, I'm very Impressed. Anyways, In the game you play as Joe, who is sucked into the "Movie World", and must battle enemy robot/skull/bat/joker things(trust me, they're cool)using Kung-Fu. After a ways through, you are granted a "henshin"(transform) ability. When your meter fills up, you transform in to Viewtiful Joe, a Power-Ranger like superhero with cool abilities. VJ can slow down time, Matrix-style, and dodge bullets and all of that great stuff. Or, VJ can go "Mach-Speed" and bash enemies at blazing, Sonic the Hedgehog speeds. If you get a chance, buy the demo...

5.0 out of 5 stars One of the best action games ever, October 13, 2004
A Kid's Review
Fun:5.0 out of 5 stars
This game starts out with a guy named Joe going to see his favorite super hero "Captian Blue" at the movies with his girlfriend Sivia. As they are watching the movie, the vilian of the film breaks through the screen and grabs Silvia pulling her into the movie. This place is known as Movie Land. After Silvia captured, Captian Blue takes Joe into Movie Land and tells Joe that he can no longer go on being a hero because he has been defeated. Captian Blue then awakins Joe's hero ability's and Joe becomes Captian Blues alter ego, "Viewtiful Joe". Captian Blue gives Joe 3 super hero abilitys, the first being able to slow down time so your punches will do more damage, you can slow down spinning enemys, and if someone shoots at you, you can slow down time and see the bullet so you can hit it right back at him. The second ability Joe gets is Mach Speed. Using this you can hit up to 6 enemys on the screen at once without even moving. While using Mach speed you can so up to six olusions of yourself of the screen because you are moving so fast and the olusions can actually hurt enemys. You can go though hordes of enemys in a matter of seconds with this ability. The final power that Joe gets is called Zoom In wich lets you get up close you the action. When in the Zoom In mode you get much more devestating attacks and a wider varity of moves. Another cool thing you can do is combine powers, this means you can combine the Slow Mo with the Zoom In or the Mach speed with the Zoom In. You can't combine the Slow Mo with the Mach speed however. This game is very long but you are going to get plenty of play out of this one. The reason because this game has 4 different difficulty setting and each time you beat one you get new extra. When you finish kids mode you get a music video called "Viewtiful World" that is performed by Joe and some others game characters. When you finish adult mode you unlock Silvia as a playable character as well as V-Rated mode. V-Rated mode is harder than adult mode and once you complete V-Rated mode you unlock one of the main villians in the game as a playable character as well as Ultra V-Rated mode. Once you complete this mode you get the final unlockable, Captian Blue. As you can see in order to get the full potential of this games you must go through it 4 times and trust me, this game never gets old. If you have a Gamecube or PS2 and you don't already have this game you should consider this one, I haven't had this much fun with a game in a while.
